  1. The Board of Control meets on June 12-14 and one of the items on the agenda is the reclassification for the next 4 years. Has anyone heard any rumors about possible changes? Or possible playoff changes?
  2. Don will do a great job, he has a passion for Greenfield & is very knowledgeable, he was an asst at Lambuth under new Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze. He does have his work cut out for him, as would anyone at the 3rd smallest football playing school in the state.
  3. they must be really complicated they are waiting to tomorrow to release it ... my take is if you have to release a video to explain it, then it is too complicated
  4. Take it from someone who has coached against him, he is an absolute beast
  5. I know the pass defense is very unsound, you can't play press inside leverage all the time with only 1 safety
  6. Don't be surprised if Adamsville pulls the upset in this one, they have been fighting the injury bug all year and are just about to get healthy at the right time.
  7. this will be one of the best games in Memphis all year, 2 really talented clubs with 2 very good coaches. But I will take Ridgeway in a close one
  8. I agree with all except numbers 4 and 5, they are human also, some of them do hold grudges and some will enforce it differently maybe only a few but some will. from your tone you must be an umpire
  9. I am, in agreement about how coaches are supposed to act, but the way the rule is written, it leaves little room for interpretation, for example, if a 1st base coach takes a step out of the box to ask the base umpire if he can ask the plate umpire if the the first baseman pulled his foot off of the bag, both coaches are supposed to be confined. if he does this in a respectful manner, there has never been a problem in the past, but could be with some umpires who are more literal than others.
  10. The reason that it is different is that the coaches are located in different positions on the field during the game, an assistant at first base has a different vantage point on a call at first or down the right field line than the head coach would from the 3rd base coaches box or the dugout, don't get me wrong, I am not advocating that an asst coach go nuts and kick dirt or act a fool on the field, but it is ridiculous that he can't take 3 or 4 steps to ask a question. Furthermore as this rule was explained to me by Gene Menes this also applies to a situation where a player is coaching first base in a situation where there is only one coach for the team. If that player violates this rule he and the head coach are restricted to the dugout as coaches, but the player is still active as a player, meaning as soon as he gets restricted to the dugout he could pinch run, or pinch hit. I was discussing this with other coaches over the weekend and they see a tremendous liability issue in a situation like this.
  11. I understand that they can still question a call, but some coaches can question a call without calling attention to themselves if they walk down the line towards the umpire after the call. Without drawing attention to the situation, it can make the relationships better, all umpires that I know don't want to be shown up, especially by an assistant coach. That is why I think that the ability to do that is bad for the game, I do realize the better officials will allow that type of thing to go on, however it is the ones who are unsure that will abuse this rule. It is my understanding that not all state associations have endorsed this rule, I find it unfortunate that ours has.
  12. The national federation has implemented a new rule change for this spring that has to be one of the biggest in years. The rule basically stipulates that an assistant coach may not leave his area to question a call, if he does he and the head coach are to be restricted to the dugout. I understand the need and importance of sportsmanship in our sport, but in my opinion this is just another attempt to protect officials who aren't capable of doing the job at that level. This is just one more step by the national federation to turn our beloved sport into rec ball.
  13. this is also being reported on footballscoop
  14. guys , MUS is a spread offense, but not Tony Franklin disciples
  15. I don't see how they could reclassify when there are games for some schools with out of state opponents, the new scheduling wouldn't guarantee the same open dates
  16. let me tell you this, I have seen them on film several times this year, he is going to LSU due to combine numbers, but he is not the best high school defensive player on that team. Let me assure you that Hardin Co will have their hands full, not saying they can't win. but I know most of the teams on there schedule well and let me tell you there are not many Munfords, Dyer Co's and Adamsvilles on it
  17. it is really hard for schools at the bottom end of any class with the disparity in enrollments that there are to compete, some of the larger 6A schools have over a 1000 more students than the smaller 5A schools, which causes a lot of depth problems normally
  18. they are one of the fastest teams in the shelby metro area, and have played a murderous schedule, they are in a region with 6 6A teams and played white station out of the district. they sometimes struggle on offense, but have an LSU committment playing olb at 6'5" 235 who ran a 4.41 at the LSU senior day camp. they are very young on offense, which leads to the inconsistency, but very talented. they lost 2 weeks ago to Germantown the #1 6A seed in the memphis area quad 23-22 with 2 missed extra points and a punt blocked for a touchdown. So Hardin Co. fans, don't expect to be hearing a repeated chorus of move those chains coming from the PA
  19. They are a very physical defensive minded football team, that beat a good 6A Millington team and lost 2 very close games to Arlington and Cordova, all 6A playoff teams
  20. guys the point that I was trying to make is that the people in charge aren't as concerned about the quality of play as they should be, if they were they could have given us more exact scenarios during the week about what a team needed to do to make the playoffs, we called the TSSAA on Thursday and they could not tell us what combination of our win and other teams wins or losses would put us into the playoffs. We thought Friday night after our win that we had made the playoffs (which we did) but when we called our score in they couldn't tell us if we were in or not. Then to make matters worse they post the wrong matchups, as soon as our matchup was originally announced I called the coach on our supposed opponents staff who I know to be the one that swaps film for his school and met him by 8:30 went to school and began work, I got a call from him at 11:00 saying I know you are working but hold up they have pulled down the brackets and there is a good chance that we don't play. I already had my QB sitting with me discussing fronts, blitzes and coverages that we were seeing on film and that we had seen from this team in the past. When the corrected bracket came out not only did I have to run down my new opponent to swap film, but I had to go meet the original opponent and return his film to him so he could make his new swap as well. I was finally able to get with the new opponent by 4 p.m. go back to the school and begin work which would have normally started before midnight on friday if the TSSAA had left well enough alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we are having to meet 4 hours earlier today than normal to make up for the time we lost on Friday night and Saturday. TSSAA IF YOU ARE GOING TO IMPLEMENT A NEW SYSTEM AT LEAST MAKE IT ONE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND
  21. you have a good point about the legislative council, lets vote thier butts out too!
  22. Scrap the whole thing and start over! including who does it!
  23. In it's infinite wisdon the TSSAA has posted then unposted the pairings of the playoffs, as a coach in the playoffs, who had already swapped film this morning and began preparations for our 1st round game. Since the brackets have been pulled, I have talked to several area coaches who are in the same boat. One had already head towards Nashville from the Memphis area to swap. The Z plan has been an absolute joke from Day 1, they are trying to create suspense by having a selection show, the playoffs are not the NCAA hoops tournament, coaches sometimes begin preparation on Friday night for the next week, the fact that we may not get film on our opponent til late on Saturday afternoon is a downright sham, and several people in the TSSAA office needs to be held ACCOUNTABLE, clean house up there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOR WILL THEY ANSWER THE PHONE
