Raleigh-Egypt vs. David Lipscomb

Call me crazy but ... I think DL can pull this one off. I saw Raleigh-Egypt play for a bit tonight against Humboldt ... despite being huge, quick, athletic, MONEY from behind the arc, AND well-coached and disciplined ... David Lipscomb could pull off the "upset" (I think it'd be called that). What does everyone else think?

well i agree with you on one thing....it would definitely be an upset if DL won.

Go talk to Doc over at MLK and ask him for the film of last year's semifinal slugfest against Bolivar. In order to beat RE, Lipscomb has gotta slow the tempo down to a grinding halt. They have also gotta control the boards, or at least do a better job than Humboldt did. If Lipscomb can keep RE from making this an uptempo game and if RE is off, which they certainly weren't tonight, then who knows??? After all folks, it is March and upsets are possible.

PREDICTION: I say RE wins this one by around 15. Lipscomb may hang tough in the first half, but eventually the depth and uperior talent of the Pharohs will take over. Still it has been a tremendous year for the folks at DL because nobody was talkign about them going to the state semifinals back in November.

I watched the first few minutes of RE vs Humbolt. I was suprised at the slow tempo of the game. RE was content to walk the ball down the court, but the way they shoot the ball, I guess they can get away with it. Strong rebounding and alot of second shots.... they will be tough to keep off the boards. David Lipscomb will have to keep the tempo down, shoot exceptionally well, and try and keep the game close. Who knows what might happen if RE has an off shooting night and Lipscomb gets hot. Good Luck Stangs!!

One thing Lipscomb does well is box out and rebound. They are well coached and always fundamentally sound. They also shoot free throws well (just ask AE). If this game is close and it comes down to the free throw line.....Lipscomb has the advantage.

Will it be enough to pull off the upset? I don't know......but I hope so.

Good luck David Lipscomb.

RE definitely shot the ball well in the 1st quarter last night, hitting 4 or 5 threes. However, it seemed that Humboldt wasn't really pressuring them all that much. All RE did was swing the ball around until they found the open guy, and he took the shot. I know DL will apply pressure cause that is what they are known for. However, RE definitely has the talent over DL, but DL has shown they can beat teams that have the talent advantage this year.

CoachHard,

You're right on the money!

I've relayed this information on MANY occasions, regarding Raleigh Egypt: If ANY team is going to beat Raleigh Egypt, they MUST---they ABSOLUTELY must keep R.E. off the offensive boards (just ask Humboldt...and MANY other opponents)! Otherwise, R.E. is gonna be DIFFICULT TO BEAT!

David Lipscomb's strength (rebounding & boxing out) is DEFINETLY going to be tested, by Raleigh Egypt! Something HAS to give....It could be very interesting.

Question: How is D.L's depth?

R.E. is deep--VERY deep! This usually enables them to wear down teams, especially those teams that don't have any legitimate bench strength....Expect R.E. to apply constant pressure on the ball.

I look forward to HEARING a great game but, as a Memphian, my support is with Raleigh Egypt!

Go Pharoahs.

    • What has this guy done to you that is so bad? I have spoken to him at one of the games this past year and he was very nice. I am not sure on his ability to coach.
    • I didn't make it up, I was told that by another coach.   I was just passing along what I was told.  Keep your shirt on there tough guy.
    • I see them and Oakdale struggling quite a bit the next few years. I see OS to be the powerhouse of the area for awhile. It all depends on how much Coalfield can recruit.
    • How did the scrimmage with Central go?
    • I’ve said it all year coalfield isn’t the same team as the last couple years. They have 3 really good players and another pitcher that throws low to mid 80s. Other than that, everybody else is average at best. You could make the argument that their lineup was the worst out of the 4 teams in their region tournament. Oakdale is really hot right now and playing well. Greenback was the second best team there. Wartburg was hitting it well but limped into the tournament with their center fielder being hurt and their best pitcher not being able to go on the mound for them was killer.
