  1. Congradulations to Lipscomb for another championship and to Fulton for a great season. This was a geat game between two class organizations. DL managed the game better with fewer mistakes and more consistancy on offense. Seems that Fulton just couldn't stay with what was working ...running right at DL and turned the ball over with the passing game. I agree that these two teams will probably face each other again very soon.
  2. Lipscomb has about 98% of their team still playing football.
  3. May the best team win... but remember that there are 500 million people in China that could care less.
  4. It's hard to compare teams from year to year, as the level of competition also changes. DL team this year is very talented, but I don't think the level of talent within the district is as good as in 2006 and 2005. The only comparison I can see is that this years team lost to a lesser talented Goodpasture team . I would rate the 06 and 07 teams as being very equal and I think that is a credit to DL's coaching staff considering the talent lost to graduation.
  5. How does this years team compare with last years team at Creekwood? All I remember about last years game between CW and DL was that it was over by half-time. Creekwood only scored once as a result from a turnover as I recall.
  6. Shutting down the inside -outside running game for Lipscomb is the key to beating DL. Giles county did a great job of this in last years play-off game. They completely shut down DL's running game for the first half. DL was able to come out in the second half andf throw the ball very effectively and eventually wear down GC's defense. I think DL coaches are great but they tend to scheme their offense in a very predictable way. They will only get aggresive with the passing game when they are forced to by opposing defense, or when they are already ahead and in control. This cost them in the Blue Cross bowl last year. They were moving the ball very well on the ground in the first quarter and had Fulton loading up to stop the run. Only passed in obvious passing situtations 3rd and long which allowed Fulton to blitz. Would like to see DL mix it up more and be more aggresive with passing game esp when up against teams that are capable of defensing the inside -outside run. Good luck to both teams this Friday.
  7. If history repeats itself, Lipscomb will be much better in their 2nd game of the season. They always seem to make great strides in the week of practice after game one. The coaches do a great job of making adjusments and correcting mistakes. Prediction DL-35 Page-7
  8. I don't think DL has played a scrimmage with all of their offensive starters yet. Moneypenny, Rogers, and some of the starting linemen have been nicked up a little. Should be a great game, and a good test for both teams. As Vandy said, we don't seem to fair very well in the first game lately, but the coaches have shown the ability to make corrections and adjustments to wright the ship. PS Amy's Cafe is very good meat and 3 and also served catfish on fridays last time I was in Greenbrier.....be sure to wear your Lipscomb colors..you will get great service and a few stare-downs. Go Stangs!!
  9. The region should be more competitve this year. David Lipscomb is the team to beat as usual..but the group of seniors they have lost will be hard to replace. They have been an outstanding group in terms of athletic ability, chemistry, leadership, and brotherhood. They will be fine and will be well coached as usual, but would not be surprised if the suffer a loss or two. Key areas to replace are offensive line, defensive backfield. Quarterback positon should be fine but not a lot of depth at the position.
  10. David Lipscomb vs Giles County: two class programs.. great coaching... great fans. Giles County has improved every year that DL has played them. Look for these two teams to possibly play each other twice again this year. Last years play-off game was one of the best high school football games I have ever seen.
  11. Not sure about Deaunte Mason as best quarterback in region. I only saw film of two games from last year and alot of his passes were jump balls...only completed because of his big athletic reciever. Seemed to throw as many picks as td's. Will he have the same type of reciever this coming year to throw to??
  12. I would reccomend testing in schools that always seem to have 5 or 6 players at 275 plus. This seems unusual at the high school level.
  13. Caleb Simpson was able to get some valuable experience this past year when Brad Hunt was injured. However, the quarterback and recievers in DL offense will never put up any gaudy numbers with McAdam's offense. Still, he should have a very good year if the offenseive line comes around.
  14. DL has really struggled with their offensive execution late in the season. They look confused and out of sync. No discipline No rhythm No execution. Inside game is non-existant. Defense sporatic. No transition game.
  15. Noticed that Rashad Mason and D Mason were not in the box score for last two games. Whats up??? Are they injured or on recruiting vists? Anyone have any information?
  16. The comment is not about bias in the officiating, It's just about plain bad calls. No one likes to see any team who plays their hearts out get ripped by bad calls..any team. It just seems to happen all too frequently in TSSAA basketball !!
  17. Is it just me, or has TSSAA officiating gone from bad to just plain embarassing in middle Tennessee. This game was stolen from Lipscomb by the officials with 4 very bad calls. Don't take my word for it...ask anyone who was at the game. It would be refreshing to go to at least one game this year where the refs were not so noticably incompetant.
  18. This is what happens when the coaches pick the team. I don't think a lot of research goes into the decisons..just more of a gut feeling, and every coach wants to get as many of his players mentioned as possible. Each coach only sees the players on each team just once, or maybe twice if they meet in the play-offs. Therefore the coach of each team ends up picking his own players.
  19. Union City is a very good team, but they were badly out-rebounded by BA and were terrible at the free throw line. They were unable to beat BA. Lipscomb outpalyed BA from the very start of the game. I wouldn't be talking about how UC would dominate Lipscomb. Lipscomb loves to play teams that under-estimate them. They went toe to toe with Bolivar Central last year (Chisim and Kemp)!
  20. I know that many folks who watched all the games are really suprised that Lipscomb won this tournament. Lipscomb did not play well at all in the first two games with Sycamore and White House, but still managed to win both games. The game with BA was a very good defensive effort, more like I am used to seeing with this Lipscomb team. When they are playing up to their full potential, they are capable of beating anyone. Hopefully, they can achieve a liitle more consistency as region play gets into full swing.
  21. Sorry, but Lipscomb dominates the Bisons.. they win easily and are improving with every game. Can't remember the last time they scored 80 points in a game!!
  22. Obviously John005 did not watch the entire game. The fumble was a big play for Fulton just as the 82 yd pass was for Lipscomb. It is reidiculous to say it was the deciding factor. Take it away and Lipscomb still loses 14-16. As many have pointed out, Lipscomb just could not stop Fulton's 2nd half adjusments in the runnig game. Credit Fultons coaches for making the proper adjustments to give Fulton the win. Congradulations to both teams for a great year.
  23. Perhaps our East Tennessee friends would like to know about some of our Lipscomb traditions...
  24. Why not? Lipscomb beat White House last year. They have most of the same team back this year, and should be even stronger ..esp after football players win state and join the team.
  25. This game will be decided by who has the greatest TEAM, and not by who has the greatest atheletes. Have not seen Fulton play, but judging for what I've read and heard about their game with Pearl Cohen, Lipscomb's Team can beat Fulton's atheletes. The Mustangs play for each other and for their coaches and their school with great pride and love. Should be a great game to watch. GO MUSTANGS!!!
