Yeah buddy 1A football is pretty exciting. I remember several years where the top two or three teams in 1A could win the state in higher classes. The biggest difference in the elite 1A teams and the best teams from higher classes is the depth issue. There are alot of 4A and 5A teams that the good 1A teams can beat. I am not saying they would beat all the bigger schools, but I am saying they could beat some of them. I remember South Pitt scrimmaging Coffee County the in 2003 and beating them like 7 touchdowns to 2. Didn't some of the really good Marion County teams beat teams like Baylor, Shelbyville, and Soddy Daisy back when those programs were really strong? So some smaller schools can play with some of the larger ones. I also remember about 5 years ago South Pitt and Ooltewah scrimmaged and it was ugly. So smaller schools can compete, just maybe not year in and year out.

How big and how fast is Matthews now.  I remember when I played against South Pitt in 8th grade he was about 6'1 then.  Is he more of a runner than a passer or both?

Matthews is now around 6'2 and runs a 4.45 in the 40. He is a powerful runner, but also has a good arm on him. His performance this year will probably depend on the rest of his team. If the recievers are catching, there is a good chance that he will throw a lot, if not he's running. We'll just have to wait and see.

    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
