i have a situation i would like opinions on-our team has 4 starters who say they are going to skip the sat. games of the best of the west tournie (last game and semis) to go to memphis in may. the next game after the tournie is a district game-what should the coach do? bench em or kick em off the team. these same players missed a game and practices over our spring break to go on vacation and the coach just benched them for 15 min of the start of each half. personally i think they ought to be kicked off the team-lets hear it-what the opinions?

Well i do not agree with the benching because of spring break. Some people plan WAY ahead for spring break so they can go somewhere....are they just supposed to cancel for one soccer game? And if the coahc is gonna schedule a game during your break atleast schedule it a non-district game.

right-but what about now during regular season play? or do you now think its okay because its a weekend-i agree with the 1st responder you're either committed to your team and your teammates or not-you dont get to play when it fits in your schedule or when you feel like it-right?

Well yes, you should be committed to your team, especially if you start. But i do agree, going to Memphis in May to listen to music and what all they do there is stupid.

You are either committed to your team or you are not. Our players sign a contract before they make the team, stating the expectations that the coach wants. It is black and white.

All it takes is for this situation to happen, and your team can fall apart with dissention and inner fighting. Teams that are not committed will not do well in the long run. These players are affecting the whole squad. BUT, if the coach was not clear with his expectations IN THE BEGINNING of the season, then you are kind of stuck.

Tough one.

although that lineup sounds awesome, you still have to play your games. the coaches should kick these guys off the team.

why can't you guys wait until bonaroo this summer?

Exactly. Great musical point.

BigG is right, the coach needs to establish his expectations at the start of the season. To be honest, however, I'm not sure most coaches would ever anticipate that starting high school players would insult and abandon their teammates and simply blow off regular season games for a concert. I would consider that they have resigned from the team and I'd play with the guys who are left, for better or worse.

If these players are starters, then that does pose a problem. But if the ride the pine chances are they won't play anyway, so they should go if they want to. If the games aren't for their district then they don't really matter anyway. If they are starters, then the team is counting on them and they really need to be there for their team. They shouldn't have commited to go to the tournament a couple of months ago if they were planning on going to a concert.
