Trip to the State

OK, I know that in high school baseball that there are district tournaments and regional tournaments, but I'm not 100% clear of how it all is figured out.

So 2 teams advance out of every district, leaving 4 teams in the regional.

Here's the question. Those 2 teams that advance out of the regional tournament, do they go directly to state, or do they have to go through something like sub-state still? And how many teams total make it to the state tournament?

Remember. Monday Wednesday and Friday

Monday, 2nd place from district travels to 1st place in adjoining district

This game is lose and done.....

Wednesday, those two winners meet

This games is to just see who travels and who stays home Friday

Friday, losers of Wednesday's game goes to adjoining team from other region

winner hosts loser from other region

This game is win and go to Memphis, lose and season is over

This format is terrible IMHO in that a team with one good pitcher can get

to Memphis, but once there you need more than one pitcher

I have a different plan - want to hear it???

The 'Limbaugh' plan.

First, lets explain what the problem is. By only really having

to win on Monday and Friday, any team with a great #1 can get to

the state if they can survive their district tournament or even finish

second.

Other states differ. Alabama uses a tournament bracket with

best 2 out of 3 series after the first play-in game,

Baseball Playoff Bracket - 2005, Class 6A

First and Second place district teams meet in a double-elimination tournament at a rotating district winner's site for a berth in Memphis.

Using CoachT's current AAA standings as an example, the Limbaugh plan:

Dobbyns Bennett, Science Hill, Jefferson County and Greeneville at D.Bennett (Odd Year)

Knox Halls, Oak Ridge, Farragut and Bearden at Knox Halls

Bradley Central, Cleveland, Ooltewah and Soddy Daisy at Bradley Central

Cookeville, Riverdale, Tullahoma and Columbia at Cookeville

Hendersonville, Mt Juliet, Clarksville and Rossview at Hendersonville

Overton, Franklin, Hunters Lane and Antioch at Overton

Hardin County, Dyersburg, Bartlett and Cordova at Hardin County

Collierville, Germantown, Fairley and Melrose at Collierville

basically, this makes winning the district tournament more meaningful,

as you get to host every other year and play the other district's second

place team in the opener regardless of the year.

This plans actually calls for less travel with more dates with local teams

to help attendance.

What do ya think?

So these match-ups you have are based on if the top 2 team in each district right now were to place 1-2 in the district tournament? That would make it more like the basketball regional except only 4 teams. If that's the case that sounds great to me! Because take Tullahoma for example...If they get out of the district (#1 or 2) they can pitch Morris Monday and Friday and still have a VERY good shot at Memphis. This system would make it a little more difficult on them! You got my vote!

Yep!

Take 7-AAA and 8-AAA last year for example:

Oakland won the district tournament over Riverdale

Coffee County won over Columbia

it was an even year

So, Monday at Coffee County:

G1) 4:00 Oakland vs Columbia

G2) 6:30 Riverdale vs Coffee County

going by last year's results:

Tuesday

G3) 4:00 Riverdale vs Oakland

G4) 6:30 Columbia vs Coffee County

Wednesday

G5) 6:30 Winner Game 3 vs Loser Game 4

Thursday

G6) Winner of Game 5 vs Winner Game 4

Friday

G7) If Necessary

I apologize, but I am still confused.  The top 2 teams from each region advance, but where do they advance to?  Do they go directly to state or is there a sub state that they have to go through first?  And again, how many teams are in the state championship tournament?

Eight teams go to Memphis:

http://www.tssaa.org/2003Champions/StateBa...ssAAA/State.htm

So the 8 winners on Friday night go to Memphis....

What district are you in? I will 'project' what ya may see in the coming weeks

My plan would be shotdown by the TSSAA in a heartbeat but I think this might work. I base it on the current NCAA format.

1. The regular season don't mean much any more just for seeding purposes in the district tournament. My first step would be eliminating the district tournaments.

2. Instead, take the top three teams in the regular season and play a six-team double elimination regional tournament like the NCAA use to do. That puts more importance on the regular season. The site will be rotated like it has been. Even district, even year. Odd district, odd year. Talk about attendance and gate money, the T$$AA should seriously consider it. It would be an incredible atmosphere for these tourneys.

3. The winner and runner-up of these regionals go on to play in the Super Regional (same as the current sectional) and play a 2-out of-3 Series. The winner goes to Spring Fling.

Under this plan, the one pitcher wonders would have a harder time advancing. The team with the deeper pitching staff would more than likely advance. The better team would go on. But, that doesn't eliminate the possibility of upsets.

Let's hear from you. What do you think about this plan?
