Maplewood undefeated freshman host Hunters Lane freshman Thurs. afternoon at 5pm. Both teams have excellent running games and should prove to be the deciding factor. Look for a close and exiting game. Maplewood beat Hunters lane in week 2, 13-6. :thumb:

So....don't keep us in suspense, who won? I've been without computer since your post (Hurrican Wilma), and was wondering.

Maplewood played Pearl in the '69 Clinic Bowl in a cold, driving rain. Neither team was able to utilize its talent to the level of pre-game expectations. Maplewood had big yardage David Campbell in the backfield; running, passing, and kicking Jeff Woodcock as quarterback; and state wrestling champ, Bobby Smiley, in the line. Pearl's talented team was able to score one touchdown. Maplewood's characteristic come-from-behind-spark kicked in late in the fourth quarter. In spite of field conditions, they were able to move the ball down the field, until an unfortunate penalty interrupted the flow and killed the drive.

Pearl 6 - Maplewood 0.

I believe Walter Overton was the Pearl quarterback that day. I think Pearl was probably a better team the year before, having lost a very tough game to MBA. That was the Pearl team that beat Cumberland in the Metro Bowl. (I know nothing that will make money, but I have a real head for trivia...)

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
