These girls have been playing against eachother since they were in 5th grade. Cumberland Gap graduated no seniors last year, and has made an impressive 7-1 start to their season. Tomorrow nights game should be an interesting one. If you're looking for somewhere to go tomorrow night head on down, Varsity girls begins at 6:30!

GO GAP!

Nice prediction I must say! They were both pretty good games. I was suprised I have to say I thought the Gap girls would win and the Gap boys would get blown out. Way to go boys! The Gap girls did not bring their A game, and by the time they play again at Cumberland Gap in January it should be a different story.

I thought that Claiborne' s team defense was the primary reason that prevented Cumberland Gap from having their "A" game. Hopefully, by January C-G will be able to make the necessary changes to be more competitive.

Amazing how well coached talented teams seem to make other teams leave their A game in the locker room. I've never understood why it is so hard for some to simply tip their hat to their opponent and say tonight we were beaten by a better team. It is so much more classy to do so and it makes the other team respect you as well.

The full court press told much of the story. Both teams pressed, but Claiborne dribbled right up the middle time after time, and Cumberland Gap had a hard time getting the ball up the floor.

I thought the half court matchup was pretty even, but the transition game clearly favors Claiborne.

Coach Parkey has his team handling the ball very well. Whitney Parkey is the real deal, surrounded by a solid team.

Whitney Vannoy is also the real deal, but she needs more help from her teammates against the Claiborne pressure.

It may be necessary for a couple of underclassmen to step up their game for the Lady Panthers, if things are going to be any different in January.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
