what about shawn marion coming out of clarksville...he signed with unlv when they had a pretty good team...he had to be pretty highly ranked coming out of his class

Shawn Marion was good at Clarksville, but nowhere near the talent that he is now. He went to UNLV after two years in juco. Ron Mercer was ranked anywhere from #2-6 depending on the source. Brandon is about the same. Some rank him higher, some lower. There is no one definitive ranking system so it is really a moot point.

I watched Brandon Wright play the other night and he is the real deal. But what was interesting about him, it wasn't all about him, he looked to find other players first. Plus, when you have his supporting cast, why wouldn't look others. I was impressed with him.

Cannon was a good shooter, but not anywhere in the same league with the other guys mentioned as a player. Never saw much time in college for a reason. Maybe if dad had coached him after high school he could have continued to shoot 40-50 times a game and not played any D. Mike Rhodes at Perry County was a great shooter too.

Brandon Wright is the real deal he will be a great player at UNC and is arguably the best player to come from Tennessee

He is the best high school player I have ever seen, but its hard to say he is the best ever to come out of Tennessee when Unapproved Website has Thaddeus Young from Memphis ranked #3 and Brandon #5 in the nation. Although Scout.com gives Brandon the edge of Young.

I'd have to say Penny Hardaway is the best ever to come out of here and was the highest rated. He was unbelievable. He is the only player from Tennessee to accomplish the things he has like being name All NBA first team three times. He was with no question the highest rated. If not for injuries he would be almost as close as you can get to Jordan today. He even has outplayed Jordan before. As for this year Thad Young is in the mix as well.

Are we talking about high school hype, or proven NBA success? If it's based purely on hype Brandan is definately up there. I understand that Thad Young is ranked higher on rivals now, but BW has been at the top of Rivals since his freshman year Young kind of jumped to the top this summer. If it's NBA success Penny has it, although Marion might catch him eventually.

Thad Young, Willie Kemp, and Wayne Chism are also special. It's a great year for Tennessee high school basketball. I just hope all four of these players stay healthy and focused and enjoy the limelight they're receiving.

 

Once I see Chism, Kemp, and Young play live, I'll give my very unqualified opinion of how they stack up.

I was able to see Chism against Wright and when i first saw Chism, he seemed lazy, but he out played Brandon Wright that night. Chism seems as if he plays to the level of his opponents.
