Taking Redtwin's lead, here's the scoop on the new field:

MBA's field inside Tommy Owen Stadium is receiving a major upgrade. Alumnus and varsity football coach Joe Davis ('80) made a generous gift to the school which will provide for a new artificial playing surface to be installed by April 2006.

Sprinturf is a product which allows for an all-rubber infill, artificial turf system that looks, feels, and plays like natural grass. Additionally, it requires almost no maintenance, including mowing, watering, seeding, or feeding. It can be used year-round and is designed to be used with cleats for football, lacrosse, soccer, and other sports. The surface will offer students at MBA a much-needed, year-round field and alleviate congestion between sports on campus. Visit Sprinturf for more information about the field surface.

Good for MBA. That should be nice.

I played on field turf in college, and I loved it. It's a fast surface like turf, but you don't get the burns as bad and it's a little easier on your joints because it's softer. It should be great. I'm gonna have to see if we can get our local club lacrosse team some time out there.

A dozen to 20 high schools in Fairfield County Connecticut have gone to field turf within the past 3 years. The $500,000 estimate was about right. The fields surfaces are rumored to last 20-25 years. Downpours drain in no time and snow (not down here but up in CT) is blown right off. It will be a great investment.
