District 2-AA tourney talk

Hey guys!

I have to scrounge for info up in Cincinnati on the goings on in TN hoops...called my old friends at the Tribune to find out the Rutledge/Union Co. score and was somewhat shocked at the relative ease that they won the game...anyone got a report?

Also, looks like Rutledge is hitting a peak at this point in the season; five in a row and six of the last seven in the win column including that 32-point rout of previously No.9-ranked South Greene last week. Pigeon Forge won the two regular season contests in close games...what's the outlook for tonight's semi?

And what about the all Claiborne Co. semi in Maynardville? How hot will this match-up be?

KevB,

Rutledge is by far the hottest team in 2-AA right now. They are playing extremely well and looked very good against Union last night. Reischling and McBee have taken their games to another level down the stretch and the athleticism of Hudson is unmatched in the district, with the exception of Nickell.

The game tonight vs. PF should be a war. Both regular season games were close, with PF winning by less than 10 both times. Should be a great game.

Claiborne vs Cumberland Gap is the game that everyone expected to be for the title. Cumberland Gap swept the regular season series in two close games, but Claiborne is still loaded with talent. You have to love rivalry games in the post season, like the games didn't already mean enough. Cumberland Gap struggled down the stretch, we will have to wait and see if they have recovered enough to get to the championship.

KevB1990 - You should have been there! Combs had the boys hitting on all 8 cylinders. The team was hot, the fans were hot, and the gym was hot. Union County's fans got WAY out of line with some of their chants, well most of their chants. The Rutledge Rowdies were close to the "line", if not on it, but they couldn't hold a candle to the Union Co. bunch! Disgraceful! Some of the fans shoud have been escorted from the gym and thier ticket fee spent on screening the fans a little better! Enjoy that northern weather!

LOL! The northern weather has me wishing I was back in ET...y'all have had more snow than me in the last two weeks!

As far as the Rowdies being close to the line, I'd say we had enough knuckleheads over the line to even out the ones that weren't near it...on average probably at the line.

As far as UC being upset...get over it I say! If I had a million bucks for every game that the Knox-Ridge officials helped them win in the new gym since it opened I could look at Donald Trump and say "You're poor!" I love how they whine and complain...they do it all the time when they ain't winning and for them to have both the district and the region in their back yard and not make it is pretty embarrassing I would say.

Talked to Kip today...he's a good friend of mine and he is really pleased with how well the kids are playing even now that they're down to 8 with Starbird probably done for basketball season. Hopefully Steven will be ready for baseball in a few weeks.

Rutledge and PF played another hard fought battle last night. The game was back and forth all night, with PF finally pulling ahead early in the fourth. PF was able to hold off Rutledge and get the win to advance to the finals. Coach Combs has done a wonderful job preparing this team for the playoffs. The McBee has come a long way this year and will the the player to watch over the next couple of years. I think Rutledge has a good shot of upsetting Claiborne in the consolation.

CG beat Claiborne in OT. CG seemed to control the game from the start, but when you looked up at the scoreboard late Claiborne was hanging in. All of a sudden a missed freethrow and a turnover and Claiborne has it tied. In the OT Estes hits a shot to tie with about 5 sec left (Claiborne had held the ball for last shot down 2) CG inbounds gets it up the floor and hits a WIDE OPEN three.

All schools have fans that are an embarrassment, and Union County is no different. I am sure that Rutledge, and Pigeon Forge are not without them as well.

As far as Knox-Ridge officials helping the Patriots out with wins that goes both ways. Be glad that Rutledge is not like Union County. Union County must use Smokey Mountain officials in every district road game, and if i had a million bucks for every game that Smokey Mountain officials have cost the Patriots i could look at Bill Gates and say "You're poor!" ;)

As far as the Patriots not making the field after having the tournys in their back yard they can only blame themselves for playing such a soft schedule. Maybe in the future they can schedule a little stronger competition like a Halls, or as they have done in the past Austin-East, and Anderson County, instead of traveling miles to play the likes of Oneida, Thomas Walker Va., Sweetwater etc. You may trade off a few regular season wins, but you will be more tested for post season play.

Help out a pal from District 1, would you? We are going to be traveling down there next week and we would like to know what the schedule looks like.

District 1 Seed 1 plays District 2 Seed 4 @ _________ on ___________.

District 1 Seed 2 plays District 2 Seed 3 @ _________ on ___________.

District 2 Seed 2 plays District 1 Seed 3 @ _________ on ___________.

District 2 Seed 1 plays District 1 Seed 4 @ _________ on ___________.

Could you also do this for the girls? We kind of like them too!

Thanks

P.S. Have some good stuff in the concession stand. It's a long trip.

Hmmmm...your arguement would hold more weight if UC didn't eek out mostly single digit victories at home with their officials while when they go to the other schools in the district on average they get beat by double digits...just calling it like I see it my man. I think a lot of folks would agree though that officiating as a whole everywhere is suspect and substandard.
