fromthetop2
From today's Tennessean: "All year long, our problem was the penalties, even after it was addressed," Predators left wing Paul Kariya said. "Guys didn't make the adjustments and it killed us in the playoffs. They were always the more disciplined team." Nailed it Paul. It wasn't lost when, as David Climer wrote, Volkun went down. This series was lost when the Preds would take sloppy penalty after penalty-only to be bailed out by Volkun. In the playoffs, when everything is compressed and the intensity is higher, these problems have a much larger magnification factor. Kariya sounds ticked off and he should be. This team was allowed to get sloppy and it hurt them. They ran into a team that not only matched their speed, but were bigger, stronger, and more disciplined. It looked like the JV vs. the Varsity. Preds had a great season, but they need to get bigger and stronger. And more disciplined.
dandy82
They were the much more physical team but I'm in no way disappointed in the season.... If anyone noticed, they would cycle the puck on us....we couldn't get it out of the zone....we become tired and a tired player, in any sport, has penalties, fouls, offsides, etc..... We are stepping in the right direction and feel as Weber gets experience and Zanon and Klein make the big team the penalty problem will decrease..... I believe we need to address our center situation....we were exploited at center in the playoffs.....and the Sharks were a bad match for us because of their strong center play.... fromthetop2
Preds have NEVER been strong at center, even with the recent upgrades last season on the team. They've always gone for defense first, which is great, but center is, and continues to be, a HUGE hole.
Gerry Bertier
Well I hope Poile addresses the center position in the off-season. What if the Preds could of won this series? They would be the highest seeded team left in the Western Conference.
