Fball
I wonder why this hasn't been "discussed" on this forum? Is Smyrna "mimicking" Riverdale with a player who can't seem to follow "team" rules at UT? Phil may need to keep recruiters out of RC. Waving a toy gun or even owning a toy Uzi and having it in your car? How "insane" is that behavior? Sounds like MJ is going to try to "wave" the racial flag in this one. festor
Its time for Phil to regain control. He needs to go ahead and run off Mitchell, Smith, and Johnson. And if Colquitt wants to drink again, run him off. As a Tennessee fan this is embarrassing and unacceptable. If the big orange pumpkin doesn't want to take control, it might be time for Mr. Hamilton to take control.
bud
There is zero proof that a gun was ever pointed at an officer. In fact, there is a neutral witness (another driver) claiming that the officer was in fact taunting the UT kids on the interstate, jamming his brakes on and refusing to allow them to pass and almost causing them to hit the off duty officer's car. The real story has been twisted and more than a few people think that the officer has not been 100% truthful about the incident. Fulmer has handed down the punishment a few moments ago and is is suspension for 4 games, 50 hours of service and some other little bit I can't remember. Anyway, the officer "saw" the gun after they were pulled over and this officer may have exaggerated a bit at first. Also, both UT players swear that no gun was ever pointed, Johnson has NEVER been in any trouble at UT, and he has around a 4.0 GPA. Not every cop is an angel and not every UT player is bad. The truth is starting to come out. Edited August 2, 2006 by bud
wingman10
Johnson isn't a bad kid. Hope everyone will let it work itself out.
Guest Cutters Crazies
Then why have 4 been arrested since June and over 16 in the last 2 years....Florida State doesn't even have this problem like Phil does. UT is giving themselves a very bad reputation very quickly with how their players can't conduct themselves off the football field. And they didn't even do much ON the football field last year. 82cat
Couple facts that seem to back up Johnson story from Johnsons attorney 1. The officer called ahead to the other officers never metioned a gun and there is no mention by any of the officers of a gun at any time on their radios. The gun is only mentioned after it is found in a routine search of the car allowed by Johnson. 2. When Johnson was pulled over they did not do a felony stop. He was allowed to get out of his car on his own and walk around as they ask him questions and talked with the other officer Now I am not a CSI detective but ---- If you called ahead to tell your friends to pull some one over don't you think you might want to mention " they have a gun" and don't you think they might mention on their radios as they pulled the car over they would be doing a felony stop? If you have been told there are 2 young men riding down the interstate pointing a gun at people do you really believe they would be allowed to get out and walk around or is it more likely they would be taken from the car at gunpoint.(like you see on cops every week) However in the end there were some stupid decisions made and he should pay a price and about 4 games sounds about right. You don't throw out a kid that has NEVER been in any trouble and has been a model student and player. Edited August 2, 2006 by 82cat
2priceless
I don't know any of the true details of this situation, but I can tell you that Johnson was a model student and player while he was at Smyrna. I think the other punishment was that he had to move back to the dorm on campus.
bud
I work in the legal field. It will come out that this story was greatly misinterepreted. Wait and see.
Boonie
I hope it is just bad press. UT needs to clean it up if this is true. Everybody messes up but anybody with any sense knows better than to wave a gun, toy or real, at somebody. If it's true, he needs to pay. I say wait and see before we kick him out of town. chsmotion11
Why is everyone shocked that a Vol player got arrested? It happens weekly.... As a fan i dont think its cool to pick on kids when they are down... you should see what the Arkansas fans are saying about DMac (as they call him) bar fight where he messed up his big toe.. UT fans should reach out and stand by the kid.. all is well that ends well.. hope the kid learns something
SCHS#23
Last night on the news it stated that he was arrested for waving a gun at a cop, when they pulled him over it turned out to be a toy gun......
