8 men football

Metro Christian plays at Pleasant View unless there has been a change. I wish I knew where they will play their game.

8 Man Football is an answer to small school problems. Perhaps the TSSAA could address the situation at their next board of control meetings.

The NFHS rule book covers: six player, eight player, nine player, and eleven player football team/games.

8 man football is football played with 8 players. On offense 5 men must be on the LOS. There is a center, 2 guards, and 2 ends. The ends can be tight or split. In the backfield there is a QB, and 2 backs. Alingments can vary. On defense you can have many alignments. Some used are, 3-3-2, 4-2-2,3-2-3. Same schemes used in 11 man football on offense and defense can be adapted to fit 8 man football. I went to a game and found it to be very exciting. Some people did not notice the difference in number of players until after the game was in the 2nd. quarter. The field is 80 yards long and can be regular width.

Played mostly in rural counties in western states and overseas at smaller Military Bases.

11 man rules apply. 5 men on the line at the snap. Backs and ends are eligable

(the same).

 

80 by 40 field. Some other minor adjustments.

Having seen a few games of 8-man football I can say that is an enjoyable brand of football. The attendance at games is very good and the atmosphere is great. At Metro's first game the crowd was about 800 people and behavior was great. A throw-back to days of the past. I would encourage people to go see one of these games and you will be surprised. I hope more small schools will decide to add football to their athletic program. I really believe that it will increase the enrollment at their school.
