Recommended Posts

Match 1: GPS wins 3-0 over Soddy Daisy (25-18, 25-12, 25-20)

GPS without the services of senior RS Jennifer Laughlin (ankle 3 weeks) cruised to the victory on the backs of some strong sophomore play.

Heather Parman (#7) 8 K

Jasmine Brown (#11) 7 K

Danna Myatt (#16) 6 K and 2 Blks

Whitney Hammond (#9) 3 K

Junior: Hannah Shadrick (#12) added 5 K and an Ace

Senior Marissa Thompson (#6) had 4 K a block and an Ace.

Its great to have 2 experienced senior setters; Camille Campbell (#5) and Cayce Gearrin (#13). They ran the offense well all night.

Soddy was led by Chelsea Clements (#19) 5K, Ashley England (#8) 3 K, Andrea Johnson (#12) 4K, and Christy Johnson (#10) 2K, Lauren Traub (#16) and Maggie Dell (#9) each had a kill.

Also impressive was the libero (#11) Brittany Haney.

Soddy Daisy has all the athletic talent to make a run in AAA. This team will definately get better as the year goes on.

I'm assuming you are typing up the results of Match #3, as I am typing this. A bit of a give away with your lead-in but I am anxious to see how the match went!!

Match 3: GPS wins 3-0 vs Notre Dame (25-15, 25-16, 25-22)

GPS's ball control was too much for the Irish tonight. Megan Givens, Catherine Garvey, and the entire back row dug many hard hit balls and made the passes to the senior setters (Cacye and Camille) to get the offense rolling.

Junior Hannah Shadrick injured her fingers early in the second game. With Laughlin and Shadrick on the sidelines, Coach Brock had to push new players into service. They came up big. Mary Beth Booker served at least 8 straight points including an ace in the final game.

Heather Parman 7 K, 3A

Marissa Thompson 5 K , 1B

Jasmine Brown 5 K, 1A

Danna Myatt 3k, 1 B

Whitney Hammond 1 K

Hannah Shadrick 1 K, 1 B

Notre Dame was solid and has lots of weapons. They should do great in A/AA.

Morgan Strozak 6 K

Keri Partridge 5 K

Leigh Stavrum 4 K

Erica Cowart 2 K, 1B, 1A

Brittany Thomas 2 K

Emily Gadd 3 A

Amanda Marini 2 K, 2 A

I wanted to say here that we are all hoping for a quick recovery for Jen! Looks like GPS did well tonight but it just won't be the same watching them play without her on the court. Hurry back, Jen!

BE, thanks for all the info. I specifically got on here to see if anyone had posted results for this particular match. Nice summary of stats. Didn't know you had it in ya' Hitting %'s??

Thanks, Bruiserengineer, for all the stats and info about the matches. I would like to know some of the team errors concerning attacks, serves, and BHE's - no specific player names - just overall team.

I am working on a better method to track these things. GPS has had some problems with service errors this year. Maybe 6 per game is an unofficial estimate. Thankfully for us the last game against ND we only had one, and that could have been the difference between winning and losing that one.

I tracked hitting percentage at the GPS v Ooltewah match earlier in the week. That result was about 0.15 (net kills/attempts). Not that great. Maybe due to nerves in the first match of the season. Last night's effort was better. The ratio "Unofficially" probably was around 0.25. ND dug the ball well.
