GPS defeated Ravenwood 2-0 (25-22 and 25-17)

GPS's hitters had a slow start in the first game. Only 9 kills and 8 attack errors (net one kill) and 22 attempts. The team also had 5 service errors. The back row play saved the game. Great passing has become a trademark of the 2006 Bruisers. Ravenwood had some strong hitters. The senior setters Cayce and Camille each had an ace and sophmore Danna Myatt had a block. Jasmine Brown was the key offensive hitter 4 kills (no errors) in 5 attempts.

In the second game the hitting came around: 13 kills, only 4 attack errors and 23 attempts. Jasmine was strong in this game as well with 4 kills and an ace(plenty of key digs as well). Heather Parman was also a force with 4 kills and 2 aces. Hannah Shadrick had 3 kills in as many attempts. The Bruisers only had 1 service error in the second game.

The back row play was the key to the match. Megan Givens (libero), Cathrine Garvey (DS), and the others who rotated through kept the ball off the floor.

Ravenwood defeated University School of Nashville in an earlier match.

Franklin is the ultimate champion of the Harpeth Hall Fall Classic; they defeated GPS 3-1 (25-19, 21-25,27-25,26-24). It was a great match; lots of good volleyball.

Franklin was undefeated during the tournament. They beat Boyd B., Brentwood Academy, Goodpasture, and Notre Dame during pool play.

GPS lost it's first match today losing to a very good Independence team 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 15-12).

GPS went on to defeat Harpeth Hall 2-0 (25-15, 25-11) and University School of Nashville 2-0 (25-16, 25-10)

Harpeth Hall had defeated Independence 2-1 last night.

Independence beat Notre Dame.

The scores and the winners really are muddling up the VB scene in Middle Tennessee. Franklin going undefeated is a little bit of a surprise but not much. Independence losing Friday nite to Harpeth hall is a surprise even if it was 2-1. Harpeth hall is really getting their act together but losing to GPS, a very good team, with the score as it is is unusual unless there were osme players missing. Independence has been on a roll and one of the top teams. District 11 continues to be unpredictable with Brentwood High losing thelis past week, Franklin on a win streak, Independence playing extremely good, and Centinnel playing as well as they are makes a very good District along with others who are very capable.

It will be interesting to get the GPS response to this tournamnt. GPS is a very good team and has been playing well out of Chattanooga.

Franklin: Played very well. Hit hard and dug well. They were the best team at the tournament. The GPS match with them could have gone either way (the scores were very close). Laughlin was missing for GPS and that could have been a factor. Franklin's #14 was very impressive. The team is deep with no obvious weak rotations. I saw the first game they played against Notre Dame and they looked very strong against them as well.

GPS; Second best this weekend. They played sloppy against Independence and they paid the price. This team is living off great defense so far this year.

Independence: The team that played Harpeth Hall was not the same team that beat GPS. The back row looked very weak on Friday (vs. HH) but they certainly fixed that by Saturday morning. #1 and #8 are the real deal. I understand that #8 is a sophomore; if thats correct they have a bright future. If the team can play consistantly like they did on Saturday they will do very very well.

Harpeth Hall: They have a few problems to work out before the State Tournament. Haven't seen Father Ryan but from the consensus opinion they are the team to beat in Middle Tennessee. We have seen BGA and they are better than HH at this point in the season. Hopefully HH will win the third spot in D-II Middle.

Number 1 is Liz Powell and I believe #8 is Serley I believe. Both are very good players and Powell is a senior and a power hitter. Very good.

Yes; Notre Dame and Franklin were both undefeated until they met each other in the last pool play match. Notre Dame and GPS were in different gyms so I only got to see a few games.
