They probably need more teams before they can do that. Around here the top program is Hixson, they'd be in the smaller class anyway if it was done in a A/AA and AAA like volleyball.

What is Hixsons normal school classification like football and basketball? Also if you notice there are a lot of small schools that will NOT compete because of the dominance of the larger schools. Not a complaint...just something I noticed.

Hixson is 4A in football and AA in basketball, baseball, etc.

It is my feeling that a lot of small schools don't compete due to lack of facilities, lack of coaches, etc. not because of dominance by larger schools. Hixson is by no means a large school.

True facilities may pose a problem...but you can't deny when a high school has 900 plus students over a 200 maximum has a lot more to choose from. Coaches are not that hard to find.

I disagree. The largest school here in Chattanooga, Ooltewah, doesn't even have bowling teams and they have +/- 2,000 students.

A bowling facility, in close proximity to the school, gets kids bowling. If you already have kids bowling, then they are more likely to want to bowl for their school team.

A bowling coach that know what they are doing is very hard to find.

Another large school here, Red Bank, doesn't have a team, supposedly because they cannot find a coach and a faculty representative.

And finally, student population from school to school doesn't really matter. Either you have kids interested in bowling or you don't. Your 900 to 200 comparison doesn't really wash, look at Soddy Daisy and Hixson. Soddy Daisy, 1,800 students---Hixson, 900.

I really do wish more people, students and faculty alike, would attend some bowling matches. It is the closest thing to a wrestling environment I've seen!

I agree a great enviroment - But its time to split into divisions - By the way check the school sizes of the finalist over the past 6 years and you will see that no true single A schools and only a few AA schools are there. And I disagree about the odds of better bowlers coming from larger schools. When you have more to choose from your odds are greater. example - Smyrna - Hendersonville. I think

they are pretty good size schools

Very few teams have coaches that are good teachers of the game. It is nice to have a good coach, but anyone willing to show up for the matches will do in order for the kids to be able to participate.

McGavock, one of the largest in Tennessee (3200+) we only have 9, really only 7.... on our team

3,200? The TSSAA website reports McGavock with only 2,592, but that's not important.

Anyway, if bowling was broken down with Class A, AA and AAA, i doubt you would have enough teams to have a decent state tournament. Breaking bowling into classes like this would water down the quality of the bowling.

Think about it, do you want a Class A champion shooting something like 2,500 in the finals? You've already got something similar to that with the Division II teams shooting very medicore scores compared to the Public schools and winning State Championships. The State isn't about making everyone feel good by winning, it's about rewarding quality perfomance.

The size of the school doesn't matter. Either you have bowlers or you don't.

    • Gleason all over west Carroll in scrimmage. Gleason is big and fast
    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
