Any Nashville Area Coaches

My name is Jon Dial, and I graduated last year and I now attend Vanderbilt University. I got involved with the wrestling club at Vanderbilt and am now the President and am trying to get it more organized so that we can compete in open tournaments in the spring. At this point, I have encountered a few problems:

1) There is no wrestling building, only a mat room that is shared by many club sports, and so there are only 2 days a week for 2 hours apiece that we can actually hit the mat and practice.

2) There are only, on average, about 6 wrestlers that come to "practice" regularly, and so it is a little difficult to get some good live matches or drilling or what have you.

3) We need to get conditioned, which is counteracted by the fact that we only have 2 practices a week and no coach.

4) We are unable to really practice because we can't learn any new moves nor perfect what we do now because there is nobody to correct us if we make a mistake.

So, I have a proposition for any Nashville area coach that would like a little extra help/competition in the mat room for wrestlers. I'm not really sure about all the logistics yet (ie liability/insurance, transportation, etc.) but I need a willing coach before any of that can be discussed.

So, any Nashville area coach somewhere reasonably close to Vanderbilt that wouldn't mind a few extra guys in their practices, please contact me:

E-mail: jonathan.p.dial@vanderbilt.edu

Even if you have any information about the logistics of the situation, please let me know. It's definitely a work in progress, but each journey begins with a single step and all that. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on a fine choice in education> Sure hope your back is healed. Smyrna has allowed MTSU Club wrestlers in the past, but that was under Gonyea's watch. Perhaps some Reg. 6 or 7 teams closer to you would appreciate your hard work and drilling amongst their boys?

Good luck,

D. Sommers

You might contact Coach Bass at M.L. King. The wrestlers @ MLK have worked the concessions at Vandy games for years. (MLK has a wrestling room)

You could also contact Coach Simpson over at MBA I'm sure there's some "Old Vanderbilt Money" a little further up West End.(MBA has a REALLY NICE wrestling room)

Both schools are within a mile or so of Vandy's campus.

I don't know for sure but I think TSSAA may have rules that limit your contact with high school wrestlers.

Good Luck
