CPA vs. David Lipscolmb

I absolutely can't justify that kind of action. My comment is simply that I was at the game and didn't see it and have a hard time believing it happened. You see and hear a lot of things you wish you dind't when you have kids on the floor, and in this case I think it's something that didn't happen. I hate to hear that kids are trash talking each other, but know that it happens on both sides. It would be nice if there could be a way to avoid it. Players are best served to not acknowledge the crowd. You can't win.

I agree.

I do know that after watching the game closely especially with an eye on Slater I know that he never was unclassy and never showed unsportsmanship! As a fan of the Lions he is a tough player to play against but as far as i saw he never flicked anyone off.....however i do think that someone probably saw another DL player make a big three and point to the CPA student section! But he didnt flick us off. All that can be said though is that this has turned into a big rivalry for both teams and will continue a week from saturday...and most likely in district and region.

Slater has the worst sportsmanship I have ever seen. He flicked the crowd off twice. DL played very well and has some great players but i was disgusted by the behavior of Slater. Also the coach of DL was a complete jerk. The game was fun to watch though and i congratulate DL on their win.

I have known slater a long time and coached him the entire last summer. He is probably the best kid I have ever known. He had kids talking smack to him all summer and not once did anything that resembled what you are saying. I never even heard him curse one time over a 5 month period. Kid has more class than just about anyone I have ever been around. I dont believe it for a second.

I was impressed by Slater, and didn't see bad sportsmanship from my vantage point. He is really intense, but that is not unusual among good players. He has the whole game, can shoot, drive and shoot, and plays pretty good D and goes after loose balls.

He will need to become a better ball handler, IMO, at DLU when he plays every night against really quick players, but I bet he is a hard worker and will continue to develop his game. he was definitely the difference in the game.

CPA played without a starter the whole game, and without 2 more starters for over a quarter. That was too much to ask against a very good team of veterans.

I think CPA can beat DL in a rematch and I can't wait to see it.

i also dont believe that slater flicked off the student section b/c i was in the student section and probably yelled at slater more than anyone, at one point he was about three feet away and all he did was smile...ha w/ that being said the kid showed great class all game and i have a lot of respect for him...however the incident that cpafootball was talking about happened when DL was goin to the locker room and as he was goin up..someone yelled something at him and that is when he supposedly flicked off the person...i guess the only people that know for sure are slater and the person that started this debate....

I was at this game, and never saw Josh give anyone the bird. First of all... this would have been reputation suicide at Lipscomb. The boy has been there a long time, and this stands against EVERYTHING he, his parents, and his school stand for. It was a very hostile crowd (as it should be in great HS basketball). Unsportsmanlike behavior CAN happen from the best of kids in tough competition, but Josh is too experienced and been in too many close games over his basketball career to stoop to that level. I cannot stand show-boating, and will not watch a team that does it... I could handle a bird to a hostile crowd better than a pumping chest , hip-hop popping, or mouthing... DL showed total class (as did CPA). It was a fun game to watch. I agree with most other posters, CPA is going to be a force to be reckoned with. I still think that MLK and DL are in the driver's seat this season. Next year... CPA could rule 9AA!

Your absolutely wrong on Slater. He's an awesome player as well as a person.

I am surprised and sorry to see this quote. I look forward to this rivalry for the next several years. Two well supported schools that enjoy watching their teams play, travel well and generally display great sportsmanship....as well they should since they are both Christian schools. I won't comment to the Slater thing as several others already have...he is a great kid...but what in the world would the DL coach have done to elicit this comment? He really is a good guy.

I can tell you there are no sour grapes here and I actually thought Slater was one of the few DL players that did show some class. The majority of the DL players trash talked the CPA players the entire game, Slater was not one of them, maybe that was there game plan to try and intimidate a younger opponent, whatever the reason not much class as far as I am concerned.

I really can't see how DL could come out of this game feeling good about there performance. For 6 to 8 minutes of the second half CPA was playing with 1 starter on the floor and still CPA had the lead up until two minutes to go in the game. I really did not see the CPA guards getting dominated. Clayton was averaging 18 a game and was held to 7. Slater was the only DL player in double figures. The CPA point guad played the entire game and held his team together when the other starters were out.

The game was lost in the last 3 minutes due to key CPA turnovers.
