I'm not saying I agree or disagree with either of you, but will say that I have seen both ends of this "choke" throughout the year. Either way, few ref's are calling it when it is blatant. No, I'm not bashing ref's.

I've watched a kid literally have a hand on a kids throat holding his head/neck to the mat and the ref count back points and never stop the match. I watched a HS kid last night get a cross face under the chin, while on his back screaming that he couldn't breathe. The kid got pinned and everyone in the gym new saw that the cross face was under the chin and not on his throat, even his coach. I understand it happened last night against my son during a MS match. The other kid was holding my son's head/neck down on the mat with a forearm across the throat. Yes, if I had of been their I would have been screaming "foul" too.

What's the right call? Just like stalling, it's a judgement call. I think we all just hope that no one ever has to witness a kid pass out on the mat because of a laps in judgement.

thank you...well said...at least i'm not the only one having issues with it...who did your son wrestle last night? what team?

i also responded to your question about seymour on the team tennessee thread on tnwrest.net

This thread is a non issue. The parents and kids involved have said they were sorry and that should be it. Regardless of who do what and what the real rules are and so on. There is no reason for us who are not involved in the situtation to bring it back up when the actually parties involved have made up.

please note that one of the parents involved started this thread as a new one...as the other parent...i thought it was over but apparently not.

humphreyssm, please understand that I'm not saying you son was or wasn't "choked", just stating the it is becoming more of an issue and hard for ref's to determine what is an "act" and what isn't, at times in a match.

Out of respect for the kid, coaches, teammates, and his parents I'll not reveal all the particulars of last nights match with my son.

i understand completely that you weren't taking sides...i was saying thank you for your final remark about hoping a child doesn't pass out for the judement..and complete respect for not mentioning names...i was just wondering if it was coaching by club team or school...only because club team is the only ones i have seen do that...i also responded to the question you asked regarding seymour on the team tn thread on tnwrest.net

I think that the title says it all. If you look at the title you will notice that WE BOTH ARE HERE Stephanie. Which means: You and Me are both in this thread and the discussion is "Choked or Not Choked". If you start a thread, I will Follow.

As to the fact that illegal moves do happen. ALL THE TIME. My boys have all been on both sides of the rules. Remember, they started at 4 years old. all I want is a fair match just like you. No I am not saying anything about Trent. I think that I have wished both good luck.

You tell me what you wish for a name for a thread and I will make it.....

Let's keep this civil shall we!!...... I don't like the statement that has been made that my son chokes to win. I addressed the issue as soon as it was addressed in the match. Let's chalk it up to a 14 year old still learning. He and I welcome any rematch to see if a different outcome could happen.

the statement regarding...if your here... you lost... is what bothers me and i think it should be RECINDED...i would be complaing about choking REGARDLESS if trent had won or not! illegal moves do happen, we all know this...although trent has never been called on anything other than the occasional locking of hands...and i was being civil..i wanted to be acknowledged and understood, you did this..voiced your opinions and it ended in the last thread...you started the new one.

please show me where i have said your son chokes to win...i simply stated the facts as to what i have seen happen this year against my son...i have never accused him of choking anyone else.

as far as the thread goes...i think its a good thread but it should remain on choking in general and allow other coaches and referees the opportunity to see the comments and research and define what choking is as a standard...as rcpatriot stated...and i agree...i'd hate to see a CHILD pass out as a result an individuals decision...i see bad things coming with this thing...they've put a stop to raising the arm behind the back, put limits to it and maybe they can this too!

Why don't the two moms wrestle ( Raider76, you still got that Jello from last year) and stop this silliness. You guys have a long road to travel if we are talking middle school matches. Wait till little timmy goes against a man and gets his head ripped off. Then you might wished that he played B-Ball

Get over it or go to the middle school thread

Thank You

    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
