Sweetwater played well except for getting the ball taken away in the open court a few times. #11 did a good job underneath and they were able to get their shooter open for some easy looks. SW led by 2 after one, game was 32-32 at half. Seq got up by as much as 12 in the third quarter, SW made it a 1 point game with a minute left in the game.Seq made 6-6 FT in the last minute to hold on. Seq played okay overall, except for too many unforced turnovers especially after building the lead. Both teams shot very well from the foul line. You could see by some of SW's scores this year, even in losses such as losing by 6 at Tellico, that they weren't somebody to take lightly. Any McMinn Central-Chattanooga Christian score yet?

QUOTE(goldmom @ Feb 23 2007 - 09:10 PM) 826386663Yee of little faith. Great job Grundy!!!!!!!!!!

That was a big win for Grundy, they have good players and a good coach so I wasn't really surprised too much even though I was guessing Polk would get a close win. You can't compare scores to figure out who'll win games, every game has different matchups and is different. Seven of the eight teams in the region made a good showing, it seems, that's a good sign for the AA basketball in the area. The one that didn't was probably the most experienced team around, that's odd to me but you never know what will happen.

QUOTE(Indian @ Feb 23 2007 - 11:51 PM) 826386842The Howard-Tellico score now says 56-45 on the scoreboard, I guess since it's new this is correct?

...It's correct and looking at the box score the game wasn't decided until the 4th quarter...It was 20-19(1st)...28-27(half)...41-36(3rd)...with Tellico leading in each quarter...the 2's & 3's played pretty even...the Central game was a blow-out...I believe the scores on Monday will be really close...Tellico will be trying to prove it can get past the semi's...the 6AA's needing to prove that they can reach the Finals...Central will be a tough 'cookie' for Grundy...Tellico will need some of the other players to step-up(McKinnon scored 41 of the 56 points last night)...then again she may do what Katrich did for the "Lady Rams" last year and realize that she will put the team on her back and carry them...Tellico will surprise you because when Brooke didn't have such a good game the other night, Powers stepped up and hit 30 points!!!

...You are right, in most instances you can't, however I have seen games where scores are the only reference point especially if the teams haven't played each other...the 1st round being played on the 'home court' should and does favor the higher seed as evidenced with Region 3AA...we'll see if the same thing happens on the Boys side...Congrats to all of the Girls winners...let's hope that Monday night will be as exciting...I'm looking forward to it

    • Won't happen. College coaches will back the coach every time and it cost this young lady her senior season. Looks like the player may be right on this one. School let her  go after one season. This stuff happens more than you think.
    • “No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team.” For language? I’m not seeing that as a dealbreaker.
    • Why did the coach get rehired after she was let go as an assistant by the former Warren County coach and the current AD?? Is that accurate?? I am very familiar with situations like this. Suprised lawsuits haven't happend before. If the coach unfairly let the player go, I think she has a shot because it cost her a scholarship. No college is going to offer a scholarship to a player that is kicked off of the team. Not going to happen. There are bad hires like this a bunch and kids are treated unfairly by coaches that can't coach a lick and have super long ropes somehow. Amazing how some of these coaches get hired and keep their job.
    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
