QUOTE(babydoll26 @ Mar 15 2007 - 09:27 PM) 826413521[/snapback]Obion will probably be a contender in AA. Greenfield in A. Not sure about AAA.

While this poster doesnot want to get into the fray of AA and A strengths and weaknesses, AAA has become more of a Coaching situation. It could be that way in A and AA is also. As been posted, AAA does only have a State Championship in Girls twice in the last 30 years. This posters thoughts are it has nothing to do with talent but has a lot to do with West Tennessee emphasis from as high as the Principal area and the selection of Coaches. Of course, maybe some might want to look at the way both men's and women's basketball is marketed in WT and find a great deal of thought that Basketball is not a moneymaker as much as Football and more money is spent on that sport but could be a lack of expertise on how to market the sports instead of anything else.

One can only look at AAA girls in WT and see Millington making some waves and only after a coaching change may have made a difference. This poster would hope other things were involved. Sure there are a number of schools in WT in AAA that have weaknesses but its not in the talent areas.

a and aa in wt are more competitive with the rest of the state than aaa>

I believe in the East and most of Middle Tn. Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols have had a major influence on girls BB., particularly in regard to the interest level and expectations.

This poster thinks you are correct, in part, but there are so many other situations that contribute to the interest and expections in MT that they all get mixed. The interest in Title 9 and the economic advantages of such is important. It has effected womens athletics so much it is increditable. AAU and associated programs started their emphasis 6 years ago and those real young players in every sport has gained technically and physically to where they are today. Those players who have been thry the system are now filling up the rosters around the state in College /universities and now are moving in to other states. CU are now finding better athletes. Great CLUB programs have provided opportunities with very good coaching. Coach Summit has done a great job but Coach Insell and the AAU program and Shoe program in Shelbyville did a great job along with a new breed of wpmen's coaches have done a great job. In MT, Hooptown reached out and supplied talented players everywhere in MT. Success bred success and you players entered the coaching programs and provided the expertise they were taught and the younger players saw that and followed. BUT this poster is concerned that this cycle is slowing and only the elete now are being considered and not as much fervor is being exhibited in training new players and the time is being spent, unproportionally, on those that have been trained. this is not a good trend. this is a good subject, one if pursued, could be eye opening.
