QUOTE(wpasi @ Mar 31 2007 - 09:51 AM) 826427040Who's playing and scores?

In pool play games, Catholic defeated Anderson Co. 4-1 on Thurs. (this game also counted as a district contest), lost 6-5 to West on Thurs., and defeated Oliver Springs 2-0 on Friday evening to finish as the fifth seed heading to the elimination round.

In the single elimination round on Saturday afternoon, Catholic beat Campbell Co. before losing to Alcoa in the second round.

Alcoa and Sweetwater were about to play when we left Clinton.

Sweetwater and West finished pool play 3-0 to secure first and second seed byes in the elim. round, and Sweetwater eliminated Union Co. after Union Co. had eliminated Oak Ridge by a 2-1 score. Union Co. had beaten Campbell Co. in pool play, and had lost to Clinton and West.

I believe that Morristown East finished as a fourth seed to advance to elim. play with a bye, and that both Clinton and Anderson Co. might have finished pool play with 2-1 records and entered the elim. round as 6th and 7th seeds. I believe that M. East MIGHT have eliminated Clinton, but I am in no way sure of that! ??? I believe they had just finished playing at Clinton as we were leaving.

I believe that Anderson Co. was playing OS in the first round of elimination, but I don't know how any of the games at AC turned out today.

Bearden also played in this tournament, but other than a loss to Morristown East, I'm not sure how they fared. ???

Perhaps Gary will get on here and update the final results later this evening.

Anderson Co. ran a good tournament, at least in my opinion, and we certainly enjoyed the opportunity to play in it! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Sweetwater is waiting to play the winner of Morristown East and West High School for the championship.

M. East beat Clinton 15 to 1 and is up on West by a couple runs going into the bottom of the 6th.

QUOTE(rSquared @ Mar 31 2007 - 05:51 PM) 826427199Just got a phone call (thanks Lance!) and heard that Sweetwater eliminated Alcoa and that Sweetwater and Morristown East would be playing for the championship. Hope this is correct.

This information was apparently a little pre-mature. My understanding is West got the benefit of a two out, two run error from M East in the bottom of the 7th to get the win over Morristown East 6 to 5. Would make it Sweetwater vs. West in the finals.

Thanks for the update, statman3. My source (another coach) simply said that it appeared that East and Sweetwater would be playing in the final, and I'm sure he based that on East having had the lead very late in the game! I actually meant to put the word "probably" in my post---my oversight! Sorry!Tough break for East, but that's how quickly things can turn around in the game of softball! My hat's off to Knox West, Coach Mayes and staff! These girls have really improved and are having a good season!

So it was West and Sweetwater in the championship. Any idea who won it??? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
