Other than your Antioch Bears which should win the region imo, who is better than HLHS? Overton is coached well on defense and has two talented running backs but they will battle for the 4th spot imo. Gallatin and Hendersonville will be down this year especially Gallatin. Hillwood can't help but be better but Coach Phillips not being there at the start of last semester will hurt their chances of getting that 4th spot. I don't know much about McGavock but Broome usually does well with what he has to work with. The winner of the HL and Antioch game will have the leg up on the rest of the region.

I'm sorry, as stated in an earlier post, Gallatin is the champ until someone knocks them off. I hope Antioch is the winner of this region, but we always seem to run into the Green Wave and choke. Has cost us the region and a deep playoff run several times. Overton's D will always keep them in contention. Don't know much about H-ville or McGavock, and like you said Hillwood will be better. This is a toss up region, to the victor goes the spoils. Good luck to all.

do yall think glencliff could make a run at making the playoffs?

This region truly is a toss-up. The green wave will be down from last year. HL always has talent and should battle for the top spot. Antioch will be tough to beat. They lost a lot last year but guys are stepping up. McAdoo should be a beast and Terrance Davis and Dontel Watkins are playmakers. Overtons defense is one of the most sound out there and their offense should be better this year. Daniel is probably imo the best back in metro. Hendersonville will be like usual. Good but not great. McGavock usually contends but I dont know much about them. Hillwood will be improved. I think Mose is a good fit there and should do well. Glencliff will be Glencliff, a couple of good athletes and decent coaching. I see the region as AHS, OHS, HLHS for the top three and then GHS, Hendersonville for the fourth spot, Hillwood could be a spoiler and Glencliff last.

**Antioch-Probably best talent in region... But its hard for a 1st year QB to get the hang of things on VARSITY

**Hunters Lane-Lost alot of talent, but had plenty back ups last year 2 replace the losses

**Gallatin-Lost alot but always the team 2 beat in the region.

**Overton-With the return of the running game, could be a threat for anyone inthe playoffs

Hillwood-I've got Hillwood barely missing the playoffs.A much better team than in past years.

Hendersonville-Lost some key players on Defense like Mike Hart and Zakk Armstrong, but wit QB returning, They could easily find their into the playoffs

McGavock-lost almost all starters. With the loss of Tribue,Kilcrease,Foxx,Dixon,Romeo, and the QB(Can't remember name)It looks like a rebuilding seaon for the raiders.

Glencliff-has alot of talent, but lacks team work and discipline.

Sumner CO. WILL RULE!!!!! Because:

AHS will play soft in big games.

HL will choke in big games.

OVT will have no offense in big games.

McG GL & HW will not have any big games.

I don't believe you are giving AHS and HL enough credit. Sumner Co. schools will take a back seat to the metro teams this year. Gallatin had their run and will need a year to build up the younger guys. Hendersonville will be solid but not good enough for the 1st or 2nd spot imo. OVT may or may not have offense in big games but they definitely have explosive RBs who can go the distance at any moment making them very dangerous. McG was down but I expect them to compete better than last year. GL and HW will battle and fight for the second to last and the last spot unfortunately for Abner and Phillips.

Antioch will be tested early this year when they play Riverdale. They play 'soft' against R'dale they will be embarresed big time. At least they are not playing softies for their non Region games.

Exactly how does YOUR non region schedule look?

If you haven't noticed, LILAL is the biggest hater of Metro sports teams on this board. He's never strayed from the opportunity to publically dog a Nashville public school program. I've heard that he may have been run out by a Metro school or something, so maybe that's why he's bitter!

On to things that are not a waste of oxygen...........................

I really like Antioch in this region this year. They have some holes to fill on the OL and at QB, but the Davis kid is special, I mean, probably D-I special if he keeps growing and works at it. McAdoo is the best player in Davidson County and he'll be a disruptor. I think that last year proved down the stretch that Woodward is the best coach in 5-5A and he has the best talent pool to work with. And I love his scheduling. He might get his butt kicked the first two weeks by Riverdale and MBA, but after that stretch, his bunch will be prepared to go head to head with anybody 5-5A has to offer.

Gallatin is kind of retooling, and plus Lassiter has really proven to not be able to get over the hump with his conservative approach to offense.

Hunters Lane will be dangerous as always, but they always seem to play up or down to the competition level.

Overton is like Gallatin-lite. They play great defense, but Anderson, while a great fundamentals football coach, plays it too close to the vest offensively and that has hurt him dearly in the past.

Hendersonville is the X factor.....I just never know what to expect from them.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
