QUOTE(brick25 @ May 25 2007 - 08:44 AM) 826466783Beat someone who we have heard of and then come and talk

Have you ever heard of Notre Dame or CSAS...cause we beat both of them...I don't know why you are trying to stir up trouble in a thread about two great teams playing in the championship

QUOTE(stamfordbridgesoccer @ May 25 2007 - 09:36 AM) 826466822. . . My knowledge of the initial controversy (and stop me if I am wrong) was that TSSAA stated that schools can only have so many athletes participating who are on financial aid. Some schools stood up and said that was not fair, that the rule was saying that only students with money could play sports at their schools. And there began the controversy and eventual split.

The "split" happened because Riverdale got beat by Brentwood Academy in the 1995 5A football Championship game. Riverdale's principal was on the TSSAA Board of Control at the time and the rest is history. The impetus behind the "split" came from the public school side not the private school side.

QUOTE(stamfordbridgesoccer @ May 25 2007 - 08:36 AM) 826466822I have spoken with other coaches who have come out and said "we left D2 because we had little chance of getting to state in that scenario...we cannot consistently compete with the Baylor's and McCallie's of the soccer world". To that I say poor form. Joining a classification to better your teams' chances at state is setting a bad precedent. Be the best by beating the best. That is my take.

"Coaches", as in more than one? Notre Dame and Catholic are the only two teams you could possibly be refering to. Catholic made state 5 straight years in DII East, beating Baylor and McCallie plenty of times to do so (they won the region the last year they were in it). So, I can't speak for what ND's coach has said to you, but I doubt their are plural coaches who have made statements that they could not compete w/Baylor or McCallie.

In addition, there is not a singal school in Tennessee that would make a classification choice because of soccer. So please, try to post more informed information in the future.

On topic, I predict a CAK win. Besides being the favorite on paper, the experience they have in the final game will be too much for HF. But, best of luck to HF, I think you'll need it...

Well i guess well just have to accept that no matter what hume fogg does we will never get any respect. Hardly anyone thought wed beat notre dame we did that. Weve beaten CPA, beaten mggavock, and tied wilson central, we deserve more respect but its ok we know its never gonna happen. Its gotten to the point where even if we do win on saturday, which i agree will be difficult to say the least, it will just be because tarr had a bad game or it was a fluke goal, not hume fogg played their tails off and earned that win. Its just getting ridiculous, i don't care what anyone says, we deserve to be there and if you don't believe it, come to the game saturday and i guarantee we will make it very interesting.

QUOTE(stamfordbridgesoccer @ May 25 2007 - 01:31 PM) 826466951Uniden -

I am not typing out of ignorance. I am very well informed on the subject, contrary to what you might think.

But I did just go back and looked at my statement. Apologies, I did not mean to narrow my point to "the Baylor's and McCallie's of the SOCCER world". Sorry about that. I was meaning to refer to sports in general, across the board, as I have heard multiple coaches in muliple sports make such a statement. One such coach was a soccer coach.

Been so used to typing about soccer the last several days on this thing that I did not realize I was thinking one thing but typing another.

I know it can be frustrating reading things that are clearly typed from ignorance or conjecture. That is my point. Very few people have actually had first-hand experiene with the TSSAA issue. I don't know how old you are (if you are player, parent, or a coach), but I am old enough to remember and long for the days when we had ONE state champion. And I suppose that is ultimately what I am getting at. The "let's please everyone" mentality that has overcome TSSAA over the last many, many years is rediculous. I do not like having many classifications with several "state champions". But this is the system we have.

Imagine taking all of these teams that made the state semi-finals and seeing them in one tournament for one state champion!

While I understand your point, it is easy to see why we are forced to have classifications. Simply put, small schools do not have access to the talent pool of large schools. The case is similar with schools able to give financial aid to athletes vs. unable. This is reality. Maybe back in your time all the schools were close enough in size that a one division one class state tournament was a viable option, but, as of now, it is not. The TSSAA is doing their best to find the correct balance between the two extremes. I agree that making too many classifications because schools or administrations or parents are complaing that something isn't "fair" is wrong, but at the same time there are very legitimate reasons why we operate on the class and division system. While it is unlikely that EVERYONE or even a strong majority will agree on what is/is not fair, I would consider TSSAA's current system to be fairly balanced/fair.

CAK should win this game by a land slide. Ronnie go ahead and give them the trophy so the boys can enjoy thier Memorial Day weekend

1. CAK is clearly the cream de la crop

2. Notre Dame should have could have beaten HF last night 3-0

3. CAK is not short for CAKe walk

4. Traver is the real deal unstoppable

5. CAK has the experiance, skill and desire to win that is priceless

6. If HF cant put balls in the net aganist ND in regulation what will they do aganist the IRON CURTIAN.

7. CAK fans finaly woke up last night and are the 12 man.

I am glad to see some fire in the bellies of CAK. Now they are playing like the champions of last year when we dominated each and every tournament game. CSAS is still feeling the sting when I scored 3 goals 2 of them hattricks

One item that's rarely considered in the decision on whether to be DI or DII for a private school has to do with budget and time. How possible or even reasonable would it be to have a student athlete travel from Knoxville to Nashville or Chattanooga to play a district or region game. Because of the lack of DII teams in East TN, you would force students to travel 90+ minutes to play a league game on a week night...makes no sense. These are still high school students that are supposed to be getting an education. Travel costs would go through the roof which simply takes money away from the overall athletic program at a school. Whatever the choice, I can guarantee you that the decision is not made lightly by the people responsible for the well-being of the school. OK G...I'll stop there!

My prediction is CAK 2 - HF 0

it really doenst matter what happens in this game...everyone knows hume fogg apparently does not deserve to be in the finals and CAK is god. all of you are ridiculous. give some public school soccer stars some well deserved credit for working their buts off all season and in this tournement and showing why they do deserve to be in the state championship. It makes me sick that respect cant be given where it is deserved.

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
