Fulton-Bearden Scrimmage

I hope more than 3000 show up for the Border Bash at PHS. I had to look a little while before I found this site. Our paper up here has been putting little sections about Fulton comming to Canton to scrimmage since about May, so I decided to find a forum to post in. Usual crowds at home games are always above 5000, and rivalry games (Tuscola from Waynesville, and Brevard from Brevard) ususally surpass 10000. The lowest attendance to a PHS-THS game in recent memory was 10,200. In the 2AA Western Finals last season Pisgah played defending champs Shelby in Canton, the crowd was 15 people deep around the fences and estimated at 14,000. Our town loves football and inviting a great team to come in is great for us, and is a great way to kick off a new season. I have heard nothing but good things about Fulton High, and I hope anyone who decides to make the drive has a safe and enjoyable time at Pisgah Memorial Stadium.

I know the football is big in Western NC ... glad to hear that ..HS Football is one my favorite's .. I hope Fulton can come in and hold their own .. they got washed out for their first scrimmage so it will be first lineup against anybody this year ... I was counting only about 6 seniors who play .. Fulton is extreemly young and inexperienced on OL / DL lines .. if they can get some blocking they may be able to hang in there .. if not its gonna be tough for them IMO ... we have heard of Western NC football ... of couse Shuler from Tuscola and now Crompton being over here at UT ... I wish I could make it but probably wont get to make the trip.

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
