With this game coming on week 0, it usually comes down to special teams and coaching. I will have to give the edge to Cookeville in both of those areas. I do think that Central has some better athletes, but Cookeville is going to give them some things they've never seen before and aren't use to and so ill give the edge to the cavs.

I know that Joslin is a very good coach, but Central's coach, Joel Helton, has been the coach for 20+ years and is one of the most successful and respected coaches in the state.

As far as special teams, Central has solid kickers. The return specialists for the Bobcats are outstanding.

These teams have never played each other, and really don't have opponents in common, so I think it is hard to say that one has a better coach, special teams, etc. I guess we'll find out Friday nite.

4walls--when you are on 640, you will get off at the Broadway exit. This exit has 2 traffic lites. You go thru the 1st one (Old Broadway), to the 2nd lite which is Broadway. You will turn left (north). You will go about a mile. On the right you will see a new bank called Bank East. This is Essary Rd. (there is a lite there). Turn right onto Essary and the school's stadium is on the left about a 1/3 of a mile down. You can't miss it. As far as parking goes, if you get there early, you may be able to park along the street which is a bit closer. If you have to park in the school lot, it can be a bit of a hike.

Also remember that there is an hour time difference between Cookeville and Knoxville.

Come early, be safe and have fun.

Saw were papa chaos and ruse? seem to be bias to east tn. football..I have to admit some real good football is being played over there. Shucks, I like to going over there and watch'em play football, good atmospheres to be in..However, I'm taking Cookeville in a close one..Good luck Cookeville!

Yeah, I have to fess up to the bias... Then again, my only real exposure to West TN football usually comes in the BCBS Championship game each year, and then I only get to see West TN stack up against Maryville which is a pretty tough measuring stick for anyone.

Do you know much about the two teams? Does anyone else?

I'd love to hear some opinions from folks who are familiar with both programs. I always hear that Cookeville wins with heart and by somehow overcoming the odds when their opponents have more athletes. Sounds familiar to me as many people often say the same thing about my beloved Maryville Rebels. I know that the Rebels rely on coaching, discipline and execution (and quite honestly our "athletes" often don't get the credit they deserve). Is the same true for Cookeville? If not, what's their secret for success if they so often seem overmatched on paper but come away with wins?

For Central, I don't know what they have this year. But in a typical year, they have great (and I mean great) athletes at the skill positions. They are always an athletic squad all the way across the board really. They are always a big play threat and their defense is tricky, quick and very tough. If not for a few poor decisions in the backfield and miscues in the kicking game, they may have knocked off Maryville and won a couple of state championships themselves in recent years.

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong with the bias..Football is tough over there..I am from Livingston so we get to see some good football (in east tn.) in Region 2-3A..Just saw Cookeville once this year..LA plyed'em in the jamboree..Very vanilla on both sides, but Cookeville appears deep, is very athletic, and very well coached..They have come to be a power in 5-A..Good support from fans..I really expect a good game although I'm not familiar with Central (just going what you said about their athletes)..As for Maryville, they are a tough measuring stick for anyone in TN.
