Congrats to Memphis on Spring Fling

The ball is in Memphis' court. It's up to them to make everyone feel they're getting their money's worth. With two strikes against them to begin with, it will be tough. More than likely, the first year will go off without many problems making a good first impression like any businessman would. The second year I will bet you the police coverage and other smoothing amenities will begin to fade in order to recoup the initial investment. That's where the slippery slope of municipality economics gathers speed and it becomes a political tennis ball. When they begin to look at the profit projections from the proposal and realize how far off they were, well, now you know the rest of the story. This sounds like gloom and doom but all of us see this time and again in our own communities. Tack that on top of the worst logistical location and you have a ticking time bomb.

What I find funny, is most of you people must never have had kids that played AAU baseball or basketball...

All it is, is travel. You don't see people complaining about where the nationals are...Most of the time they are in Dallas, this year I think they are in Lebannon, which is great for my team, but we honestly don't care...When you get used to traveling and playing competively, then it doesn't matter who or where you play...Like someone said earlier, who cares where its at. Memphis was able to host the Tyson/Lewis fight with few problems, Memphis in May (probably around 250,000 people in 7 or 8 days went to that), an NBA team, AFL2, CHL, 2 soccer teams, AAA team, XFL...I'm sorry you guys are used to having your cake and eating it too, but thats not how life is...I'm not going to say Memphis was the best choice, I would have liked Nashville more, but who cares...I mean 30 years from now, will it really matter where it is played at? Some of you people that might have played baseball or other sports 20 years ago, probably would drive to the other end of the state just to relive some of those moments, I know I would.

But instead, you choose to go ahead and have a negative mindset about something that is about 11 months away, and might not even involve your team. It is simply amazing the audacity and negativity people on this board have.

Ego: I see you are interested in football and basketball.

Since you are responding on the softball board, are you

involved also with any high school or travel softball team?

If so, go to the Germantown tournament this coming weekend

and look up the Challenger Express softball team. Ask for

the old FP, I'd like to buy you a soft drink and pick your

brain on the Memphis area in case we're lucky enough to go to the Fling next year.

I live in Memphis, and I do not like to see a city made fun of by individuals who have never been to the city. As I said earlier there were some comments that involved CBHS' field...I live about a quarter of a mile from there, and as I said earlier the houses are in the 500K-3 million dollar range, yet people disrespect them...thats some of the dumbest comments I have ever heard.

I would love to attend, but I have the UT knoxville orientation this weekend, thank you for the offer.

  • 4 months later...

While at a Germantown tournament this summer, I was told by

a local high school coach that a big Baptist church was

to build the fields for the State Tournament. I believe it

was Bethel if I'm not mistaken. This was on I-40 before

you get to Bartlett and Germantown, and close to St. Benedict. Does CoachT or TheEgoHasLanded or anyone from

that area have an update as to how the fields are progressing or if they will be ready for the SpringFling?
