If it is not broke, don't fix it!

I thought there was nothing that the T$$A could do to surprise me. We have seen it all over the past couple of years. But now with a chance to centralize the Fling they move it from one extreme to another. Poor Maryville that was in the finals this year, if that was in Memphis, how far of a drive is that? I am with ERA on the idea that we are going to have to go out and buy some bullet proof vests. Can anyone tell me how much they are? I am sure they don't come cheap. What are the laws about carrying a weapon? Because we are all going to need them. And I thought traveling 2 1/2 hours for a non-district football game was insane. Thank you T$$A for bringing me back to reality.

ERA and Rukidnme: what they do at the Shelby Co. line is

stop everybody and check their weapons, if there too small,

they give them bigger ones! (lol)

also, they are deputizing John Daly, Jerry Lee Lewis and

calling up Elvis for additional security! Hope to see y'all

at Mud Island.

Funman,

Two years ago, 16UA NSA was in Chattanooga and 16UA was in Nashville. Most of the same teams played in both. The Chattanooga teams stayed in the winners braket in NSA and the Nashville teams were left in ASA. Like it or not, home field advantage and umpiring is huge. I can give some High School examples if you like. :) This maybe what the West TN teams need.

I don't see why people are so scared about Memphis...I mean it's not like we are having the games in a prison lot or something. The games are going to be played at Mike Rose Soccer Complex, which is in Collierville, Millington-which is about 40 minute from Memphis, and CBHS which has houses across the street for around 500,000 dollars and up. In fact, Lennix Lewis was going to stay in the house next to me for 10K a night, I doubt he would stay anywhere where he thought safety would be a concern...You people are grown men and you are crying about everything, Did you ever think that Memphians had to drive that same 7 hours, but how many people got on here and complained?

Rely off of your own personal experiences, and not what someones brothers sisters little kid brother told your friend.

According to the Commercial Appeal, Memphis had already booked a round trip flight for Ronnie Carter to come to Memphis before the bid was announced. Another funny thing is that both the Nashville and Chattanooga papers specifically mention how Memphis's presentation to the board was really weak. Plus the Commercial Appeal states that they expect 20,000 to 25,000 visitors per year and 20 million dollar impact per year to the city. Yeah right. Chattanooga only had about 10,000 visitors per year and a 2 million dollar impact. Keep wishing Memphis!!!

Plus looking at a map where all the venues will be I noticed that baseball is very spread out in Shelby County and the drive will be just a great as it was from Chattanooga to Cleveland when you throw in the traffic. There are now 4 baseball sites and 2 softball. Even if you didn't like Warner Park you can't take dispute the excitement of seeing all those games in one place. So much for that.

I am also sick of hearing about how one reason they moved it to Memphis was the ability to host more baseball and soccer teams. That is bull. If they needed to Chattanooga could have easily come up with extremely nice soccer and baseball venues. McCallie and Baylor could have easily been used for this.

the drive to memphis is so booooring. I dont like Chattanooga either, but at least if you wanted to see the games and your team was winning you could drive back and forth from nashville now it will cost the parents a whole lot more money to see their child play. You will have to take vaction time, and spend a lot more money on a hotel room it is just going to a bother. And why do we have tssaa anyway if they dont have to go by any rules except their own? what can we do to to make them have someone to be accountable to. I dont think i understand that.of course i dont understand anything that tennessee does.one other thing shouldnt they have all mis-state from private schools seperate from public schools or something to make it available to all girls that are deserving wether they make to it to state or no not because i know that the girls that got it deserved it but too many were left out that should have been on there

Memphis this is your chance to show everybody what you got.

Right now everyone is lining up and taking potshots but most

likely they would do the same to any city that got the Fling even if it were in their backyard.

What it comes down to basically is the sectionalism rivalry

in the state. You have Midstate vs. East vs. West and vice

versa. Nashville does not like Memphis and Memphis does

not like Chattanooga and it goes around and around. It will

always be this way in the state and sports is certainly no

exception.

I don't understand the post by Melinda...its hard to make out, too many fragmanets and misspelled words.

FP-I agree, I think it should have been in Nashville, but Memphis had the best offer, so if you guys don't like it, do something about it. Build a brand new 2000 seat softball field in your back yard, maybe that might help, generate some local interest in the community, but most importantly, be happy that young men and women can still have a place to play, and still have the ability to play.

Ego: Just letting the kids play and have fun should be what

it is all about, but adults all too often get in the way.

Here you have a situation involving big money, state politics, and adult oneupsmanship, so its a lose-lose for

everyone. It will be good for Memphis to have the Fling,

then it will be some other city's turn, it needs to go to

Nashville, Murfreesboro, Knoxville, Johnson City, even to

Coffee Co and Waverly! (lol) :)

What difference does it make where Spring Fling is played? You get to watch your child or team play a sport. I do not think it matters to our kids where they play. Let our kids compete and lets not have them frightened out of their wits about where they will play. Nothing is going to change about where it will be so just get over it.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
