One word for Cody Cleveland: IMPRESSIVE (borrowing ANIMAL's formatting).

Cody won his finals match 21-10. He had two other decisions: 13-10 & 6-3. He also picked up a tech in the first round 16-0.

Speaking of the first round match, if I am readin that properly it was a battle of old HS teammates. Unless it is a different Ryan Scott wrestling for Appalachian State then those two were both part of the murder's row McCallie had a few years back. It looks like Cody has taken it to a completely other level since then.

Nice job by true freshman Matt Lettner finishing 3rd place as well. That one continues to impress as well.

BTW, is anyone following the season that Anthony Robles from Arizona State is putting together? If you don't know his story you should google him real quick. Kid was born with one leg. He was a two time Arizona state champ and won Sr Nationals I think in 06. Already knocking off some big names. This kid has a fantastic story and it has been picked up by seeral national media outlets. It can only be good for wrestling as it is a lot of positive press. Take a look. I mention because when I saw the results I wondered who had knocked of Maldonado and put him in third, when I saw it was Robles I was a little less surprised!

Don't get too juiced. Robles is a good story but we are talking about wrestling. Because of his handicap, he is hard to wrestle. Maldanado was down by about 9 points very quickly. One Javy figured him out, he dominated but ran of of time before he could catch up. Robles will have a hard time beating better than good college wrestlers more than once.

Again, he's a good story and his accomplishments should be applauded.

Did you miss the fact that Zack Garvin was OW?

And yes...it's the same Ryan Scott.

Agreed on Robles. Notice I made no NCAA AA predictions for him because I am of the same opinion you are. He will beat a lot of people the first time or two they wrestle. Once good wrestlers understand his style a game plan will developed to handle it and shut him down (if not I would have to question the coaching). There have been a lot of wrestlers like him over time and most get figured out, but hey you never know when someone will really run with it and surprise us all.

I did not notice that Seth Garvin (just messing with you BB) won the OW, however it is definitely no surprise. Very strong wrestler. Fun to watch as well. If I was a good wrestler particularly one who wasn't getting the looks he wanted from some of the traditional powers I would not hesitate to take a long, hard look at Appy State. Another fav along the same boat for me is Northern Iowa, just like what the program does with their kids. Programs like those don't get the proper respect a lot of times.

How are things in Bear Country anyway?

Congrats to all the guys!! I know how hard you work everyday and I am very proud of you all. Also appreciate all the coaches are doing with this team. Chris, Nate, and Izzy, ya'll are wonderful, so positive and so driven. You have made a mark and let the guys know that they can compete on any level. Keep up the hard work, all of you.

    • Who’s going to lead the pirates offense this year?
    • Pickett is good, may have a Mr. Football like season if he’s used correctly. One of the best teams Marion has fielded in a while. I think they go 12-1 and loose to ER.  ER has better players at almost every position. If they play discipline this year, they win soundly. If they don’t though…Marion could sneak away with it.
    • I’m betting the house on the Indians. Pickett and Co will be the only team to challenge the Indians in the East. Huntingdon can in the West. I think Brooks goes 15-0 and has the first perfect season and state championship in ER history.
    • Sounds like a great opportunity has opened up for the football team.  With the head coach of the diamond rebels making it official and quitting this week, there should be some room for the gridiron guys to benefit. I assume the administration won’t continue paying six figures to two former coach that quit to continue teaching drivers Ed. Thats pretty good money that could be redirected toward the football program. Also, with the more recent policies of pushing kids to only play one sport, abolishing the baseball program altogether would help on Friday nights in the fall. There is some decent speed on that baseball team that should’ve been playing on Fridays IMO. I’m not sure if anybody would really miss that baseball program anyway with it being across town from the school. The liability of letting players actually use the facilities could also be mitigated with closing the program. That liability seems to be a really big issue for 825. Anyway, it seems like a great opportunity is available.
    • Yeah, I read about their spring blue/gray scrimmage after I typed that.   Sounds like a real mess over there.  I just hate that for 'em.  Haw
