How are the weight class broke down such as

is it 100-115lb, 116-125lb,126-135lbs, etc.?

I've been to TSSAA the rules will not pull up and some of the other websites like TNwrestling

go over the rule changes.

I am a parent of a Soph. in HS this is the first year for his school having a wrestling team and the first

time he has ever tried this sport. Went to a TSSAA mass weigh-in and was told 186 was his min-weight,he currently weighs in at 219 I don't under stand the 186. From what I've been told it's 190-215 and 216-285lbs is this correct?

He has been in 2 matches to date and faced 2 big kids 1 at 310 the other 297. Is the cut off 285? Now he could drop about 10lbs and still keep his mom and football coach happy and be under the 215. But if the coach puts him up in the 215-285 brackett to prevent a forfit will he stand a chance. There about 5 kids on the HS team so the question is how many weight brackett are thier?

A little help full info please

In high school there are very specific weight classes that start at 103 then go to 112 to 119 and so on. In your son's case, based on his weight certification being at 186, the lowest weight class that he could wrestle at is 189. He can also wrestle at 215, which is the next weight class up, or he could wrestle at 285 (Heavyweight). By the way the 186 weight represents the lowest weight your son can drop to and still have a body fat index of 7%. He cannot drop below that weight, and cannot wrestle in the next weight class down which is 171.

I hope that helps you some.

ok so the weight classes are

103,112,119,125,130,135,140,152,160,171,189,215,275

the TSSAA web page had CHAMPS from 2006 listed in these weight classes

So if the weight is 186 which is above he must move wrestle at 189 got it.

What abut the kid at 310 and the 297 if there is a 215 and a 275 champ did the weight

change from 275 to 285 for the 07 year?

Please someone correct me where I am wrong.

If a kid weighed-in at 220 his bracket would inclued kids the weigh from 215 to 275.

And the kid that weighed 286 would be in a bracket including kids that weight

276 through say the 310 kid. Where does the 215 bracket stop 275-285-310

you forgot about 145. the only think i can think of about the people being over 285 (moved from 275 a year or so ago) is that it was maybe an exhibition match.

if a kid weighs 220 he does not make weight at 215 therefore he must wrestle in the weight class he falls in, which in that case would be 285. you have to weigh at or below the amount for whichever weight class you are going for, i.e a kid that weighs 134 can wrestle 135 and 140 but not 130 not until he gets to 130 or below. if you weigh more than a specific weight class you cannot compete in it. that is probably why you were confused when it came to the guys weighing more than 285.
