Re: 2008 Fred Rigsby Grand Championship

Coaches:

The 2008 Fred Rigsby Grand Championship (FRGC) is scheduled for January 19, 2008 at McGavock High School.

The fee for this year??™s tournament is $100.00 per team (or $15 per individual), and checks are to be made payable to: The Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association or MTWOA.

The FRGC is a single day tournament that is open to all freshman level wrestlers and 12 invited middle school wrestling teams in Middle Tennessee.

The freshman division will utilize the TSSAA Varsity Division weight classes plus a 95 lb class (95, 103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215 and 285). Based on the number of individual entries during the seeding meeting, Friday January 18, 2008, 7:00PM at McGavock High School, weight classes may be split to limit the brackets to a maximum of 16 wrestlers per weight class. The freshman division will be a double elimination format. Please visit www.fiscusconsulting.com/matcontrol.html and click on the Grand Championship link. Wrestlers not placed during the seeding meeting or those that do not make their weight at weigh-in, will be placed in the next available open bracket for that weight class. There will be no re-seeding of brackets the day of the tournament. For 9th Grade wrestlers only.

ALL ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 9PM WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16TH .

If you have difficulty entering your rosters online, you can email them to wrestling@fiscusconsulting.com or Fax them to 1-877-496-1971

The middle school division (invitation only) will be a dual match format, and will use the TMSAA weight classes (76, 83, 91, 98, 106, 113, 119, 125, 131, 141, 151, 165, 185 and 250). 4 pools of 3 teams will be established, with each team wrestling their pool members. The final two rounds will consist of inter-pool competition based on placement within the original pool. Middle school teams will be expected to fill at least 12 of the 14 weight classes.

Middle School weigh-in begins at 7am, with competition beginning at 8am.

Freshman weigh-in begins at 7:30am, with competition beginning at 9am.

The 2 lbs. growth allowance will be in effect for both divisions.

Please address any questions regarding team scheduling to Jack Faircloth (Freshman) (615) 885-6904 and PA Bowler (Middle School) (615) 822-4374.

All other inquiries can be directed to me.

Regards,

Tim Abel

President, MTWOA

The MTWOA (Middle TN Wrestling Officials Association) uses the proceeds from the FRGC tournament to assist schools in the area in purchasing wrestling equipment (shoes, headgear, etc) and also donates to wrestling clubs to assist in travel expenses for tournaments (AAU, etc). Scholarships are not funded from the proceeds of the tournament.

When did they stop funding scholarships?

BoroRef,

I do not know how long you have been around but when the tournament first started it was to raise money for scholarships. It was changed later to help out programs in need.
