Dragonmaster
The Legislative Council, at it's March 13, 2008 meeting, voted to add five days of off-season practice in basketball, effective immediately. The five days have to take place following the 21-day dead period in basketball and before the conclusion of the school year. The five days must also be within a 10-day school period and there may be no competition with other schools. As with all practice rules, only the students in your school building can be involved. This allows for teams to be prepared for summer team camps. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

warmachine7954
Yes, we get 5 days, and the month of July we can have the gym open. It allows kids that want to work to come and work. I think the TSSAA should look at it like this. If they don't allow schools to practice then at state most yrs it's going to be 3-5 Memphis teams there every year. Memphis teams= No fans No Fans= no money

Put the games in Memphis and see how many fans you have at the games. I agree that the Spring Fling in Memphis was not a good idea. None of those sports aside from baseball gets any coverage in the Memphis area. You put the state basketball tournaments here and see how many people come. Your comment has a distinct undertone. It is easy to see what that tone is about... /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
warmachine7954
I wish you would tell me because I don't have a clue. I am a coach and I want the players to get in the gym as much as possible that is what I am saying. Why would they have the state tournament in Memphis? Yea people would come and it would be people not fans. Memphis doesn't bring fans.

warmachine7954
Nope they have said you can have open gym but no coach can be there. It is weird and a few coaches have talked about it around here and we don't really care as long as our kids can be in the gym.

I have also heard that they have talked about giving basketball back two games. Has anyone heard this as well?

I saw the change involving the five days of spring practice in the minutes from the legislative council on the TSSAA webpage but I did not see anything about the change of what you could do in July. Does anyone know where this information is coming from?
taydizzle
The month of July for basketball has NOT been changed.
