but if you are having all that trouble in building a program, why bother?... any community that doesn't support their kids any better than that neither deserves nor truly wants anything developed for their children... why beat your head against the wall?... BTW, the veteran coaches who accept those types of jobs are typically on their way "down" the coaching ladder, and young coaches who take the jobs are simply dooming themselves to abject failure...

haha, I like ELA...cus of his work ethic and his calm demeanor...although our views disagree, I highly doubt what you are saying nonews is true...

Some of us teach this game and coach because we love the game. It is not about OUR careers... it is about the kids! I have seen young men stop using drugs, stop getting drunk every weekend, and turn their lives around because of one thing... the love of football! It is about more than winning games, it is a sport that can teach you a lot about life! That is why I coach, not for state championships, not to read my name in the Sunday paper... simply for the kids! Coaches who think like I do will coach anywhere there is a need and someone is willing to pay us a salary that we can live on. IN point of fact, where I coach, my salary is lower than the RBS head coach! Not everyone in the world is driven by the all mighty dollar. Most of us who get into education do it for a lot of reasons that do not directly involve money.

Let me put it this way... some of us (coaches) are searching for a team that will provide us with the "gold ring" (i.e. state championship), while others search for a "mission" in life. Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too, and there is certainly nothing wrong with pursuing a better career; however, I enjoy the struggle itself. I'm not saying if the right offer were to ever come along it wouldn't be tempting... but sometimes you have to walk through the doors that open for you. If I had wanted to get rich, I would have finished law school... as it stands, I am a teacher and football coach. It is not a profession for everyone and there are more headaches than most could imagine (being head coach), but there are intangible rewards that make it worthwhile.
