Prayers go out to the Reiner family at Farragut. It certainly puts sports into perspective.

Agreed. While the 3 states of Tennessee love to put it on each other, we all are in unison when a tragedy like this occurs. From CBHS and West Tennessee, our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the families and programs involved in both instances.

Yes, it seems Maryville has gotten one monkey off their back. Now they have one more monkey to shed. Maryville has never beaten Farragut.

Maryville looked brilliant at times. The first 20 minutes they were playing on their heels and got scored on fairly early, but from then on it looked like Maryville controlled the rest of the game. Bearden was still able to mount a few attacks, as they certianly will with their style of attacking, but Maryville was able to deny most of their chances.

Bearden got their goal on a botched direct kick out of the back that was intercepted and put over the top for pretty much a break away which was headed over the keeper's head who was coming out. Then Maryville got the equalizer late in the 1st half on a ball that was slid across the 6 in front an open net. The 2nd goal came off a cross over the defense where the Maryville player brought it down with his hip (which was close to his arm) and nailed it back across the goal in to the side net.

The last 15 minutes seemed to go by very slowly as Bearden kept getting chances. But at the end of the game the shot count was around 10-7 in Maryville's favor.

Overall a very exciting game. I believe that Maryville fans out numbered the Bearden fans, which was a little unordinary. I think Maryville can turn some heads this year. They are a team that always goes unnoticed, but in the end they are usually in the game.

yes, Maryville did win 2-1. They possessed the ball really well and were really fun to watch. The second goal was a "controversial" hand ball. I was sitting on the hill and the player hit it with his stomach, not his hand, then finished it. Maryville is a very good team, very solid in the back, while very calm. The two center mids were very skilled and have great vision. They could swing the ball back and forth very well. The outside mids are good, they make great runs and and can put balls into the box. Forwards are skilled, quick and determined.

There was no handball. I had a pretty good view right by the goal line. Referee confers with his assistant and both independently agreed no infraction, which was the right call.

Congrat's BG on your 100th! You have a class act over there and I see the school getting stronger in every sport. We have a few friends whose children are attending your great school now and will contribute to the football and wrestling programs over the coming years.

Congrats to Maryville, their team always played hard against Farragut when we lived there.

Our family prayers go out to the Reiner family also. I will pass the info on to my Farragut Grad!

Well I guess the old Football School has some pretty good soccer players as well. Great Job Maryville on taking out the Dogs at their house!

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
