The 50% rule is that no more than half the number of players it takes for a starting lineup can be on a team together in the season "before" their sport begins. In basketball that means no more than 3 players from the same high school team can play on a fall league team. The reason TSSAA did this was to prevent high schools from forcing players to play only one sport.

This does not apply to AAU basketball in the spring/summer but it does prevent a coach from putting his basketball team in a fall league, softball team in a winter league, volleyball team in a summer league, etc..

Is starting lineup the right term or is it on the team? What is the cost? Where are the gyms?

This poster would like to commend the Music City Group for starting this project and it sounds like this would be valuable in a population area. Being able to make sure insurance can be purchased is a factor for injuries can happen. Making sure cost of play is affordable is important and making sure security is addressed is of major importance in and outside the facility. Those things being addressed along with good coaches, this seems like a winner. If it is a winner there, and players are available, why would that not be a consideration in every District in the state with the new redistricting rule in 2009 or even before. Breaking teams up to only three players per school per team is not really a factor. Getting play time and safety are the major considerations clear down thru middle school. If this starts happening and it has been for some time, another prediction would be the TSSAA having to again relook at the three player rule and make it attractive and reasonable for rural areas. That would make regional centers in some areas but fill a need if the cost was reasonable and it can be done.

    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
    • I heard Alabama was at Antioch practice and Colorado has offered QB. Hoping the Bears have a great year.
