Maryville will be 6A next year. NOBODY can save them from moving up next year. Rumor I heard they have over 1500 right now.

Maryville doesn't want or need to be saved. Trust me when I say the following. ONLY the non-Maryville fans obsess about the classification Maryville is currently in or will be in next year. I'm sure many dream about it.

Anybody who thinks Maryville could not or would not compete at the highest classification level in football is kidding themselves. Heck, they won a state title in AAA basketball in 2007 and they aren't even considered a basketball school, except for the fact that Lee Humphrey played there a few years back.

There would be more competition for the Rebels in 5A football, but they still would be at the top or near the top consistently, imo.

Debate? What debate?

There is not debate, only facts. Maryville is currently 4A. When they are reclassified, they will not be.

Can we just play this season out before we worry about all of that stuff?

Amen! Every time I see these forums I think to myself they can not be going down this road again and then I realize that I was kid once and my immaturity come out like this. To bad youth is wasted on the young. Lets move on.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
