Science Hill @ Sevier County

How in the world did Sevier Co. score 21 points in the forth quarter?

That's what I want to know!!!!! One more question, Wasn't Sevier Co. ranked in the state?????? This is good for Topper football to jumpstart what I hope to be a winning program. From the 10th grade to the 8th the talent is there. The 8th is loaded with talent and not to brag but is also undefeated. Above all I believe the close games have meshed us into a team. This is a Junior laden team so next year expectations will be high. I believe the topper players and nation is falling in love with football. Winning breeds the love that is need to draw the masses. Good game Toppers and just remember, HARD WORK & DEDICATION, HEART. Play by my signature.

Are you guys still hating on Smith? Thats back to back wins over teams they thought they would lose to. He may have some weird strategies, but he has made those guys bigger, faster, and stronger, and it seems like they think they can beat anybody.

I agree.......it is becoming apparent that the kids are starting to believe, and I agree, they are bigger and faster.

The Toppers got away with one here. Can't make those mistakes against TN High. They fought and they came up with an ugly one but like everybody says, a W is a W. People say SH is back with this win over SC. I'd like to think that, but I know better. Good job guys, but the only way to cement your status as a region 1-5A contender is to beat TN High in the Castle. The atmosphere, and Coach Stubbs patented run game, should make this a fun one. I can't wait to see it. The competition that South and TN High bring as 4As prepares the Toppers for the region 1-5A schedule. This game is more of a test than SC. TN is going to line up and try to make Shepard into a star, the Topper defense needs to stay low and prevent long gains on the ground. I can't wait for friday in Bristol.

The fact of the matter is, after last season, East TN was ready to throw Smith to the wolves. Everybody was hating on Smith. Some of that hate may have been deserved, but that is another story altogether. Many of the seniors and their families were displeased with the way things went, and most of Johnson City was calling for the man's head. Now they're 3-1, won 3 in a row, and have a date against TN High (sounds a bit like last season). Now everybody wants to anoint Smith as the next Urban Meyer and talk about his coaching strategy. From what I've seen, the biggest adjustment was not the play calling, but the attitude and the workout intensity. SH is much stronger and faster, as you say, and the mentality is there to win. They don't want to be the 1-5A version of Ohio State anymore, a much hyped team with great talent that just can't win big games. SH is playing to win this season, and the boys think they are ready to take on the rest of the conference. I like the enthusiasm and the energy that they've displayed on the field this year, but our boys better be ready for TN High because they are the 2nd best 4A in the area, and we already lost to the best in South.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
