Well boys its that time again. The annual Cumberland Gap v. Claiborne game. This is the 6th time these two teams will step on the field as Panthers and Bulldogs, but this is a rivalry that dates back decades in the past to when they were called the Indians and Devils. Hundreds of players have participated in this hated rivalry and no one has had any remorse for their opposition, there will be no difference this upcoming friday. The first three games were dominated by the panthers with the bulldogs winning the fourth and the panthers barely squeaking by last year. So that puts the series at 4-1 with CG leading it. There has been no lack of scoring in this series from either side, CG has scored 122 points and Claiborne has put up 84. Im sure that number will increase this year significantly. Anyone that remembers last years game knows that the Bulldogs jumped on top quick, but let it slip away in the second half where they couldnt stave off the Panthers and CG won it 36-35. This should leave a bad taste in Claibornes mouth, but CG will remember it too. These two teams are coming off of wins into this game so they should both be up and on top of their game this week ready to go down to the wire. Hope its a slobber knocker and everyone plays hard, may the best team win.

This is a great rivalry! But my opinion is that this year Claiborne pulls away with this one! From what I hear about them this year their defense is Allowing an average of 6 points a game. And Cg is allowing 23 points per game so if Claiborne high powered offense runs it well they pull away! NOw if Cg wants to win they have to play 110% and dominate on offense agaist a tough defense but..........

Cumberland Gap played a very solid game against CDHS last friday winning 29-7. They showed that not only do they have a fast pass game, but their run game can be extremely effective as well. Claiborne barely pulled away with a win against CDHS when they played them.

Look for this to be a great, smash mouth football game (like it always is), but CG will come motivated and prove to be too much for Claiborne.

You throw out all the stats, all the records, all the averages, etc. when these two play. Last year is a great example of this. CG should've won going away last year, but it took a great comeback to eek out a 1 point win. That's what I love about rivalries, they never go as they should!!! I think this will be just another great game in this rivalry. CG is gonna have to get better in their pass game to win this one. However, they did prove last Friday that they have a pretty good running game as well. The defense has looked better and better since that mashing at South Greene. This one is for pride and that's it. I know that CG's main goal is to get back in the region hunt and try to win it. However, all the players and fans always circle this one on the schedule at the beginning of the year!! I expect a good football game in a good atmosphere and a CG win!!! Play hard guys!!

What is CG gonna have to defend against this year? Last year all Claiborne could do was playfake and chuck it up to the back pylon and wait for the Stone kid to catch it. Yes their running game was effective because it opened up those playfakes but it wasnt anything special. Have they put more emphasis on trying to run the football this year like the Claibornes of the past? We know that CG's defense has stepped it up since the South Greene game but has their offense really proven that they can face adversity in a big game situation, because Chuckey-Doak wasnt really a true test. This fridays game to me will determine the season for CG. Not even because of who it is, but the intensity and adversity that they will be facing, yes they are at home but this game has alot around it with probably 1,000 fans or more attending so they cant lose their composure because if they do i fear a meltdown. With upcoming games like Happy Valley and Gatlinburg Pittman in the next the next few weeks this offense has to step up now and not later because like i said all eyes will be on them to put up the big numbers and keep this Claiborne team from taking this one over.

Cumberland Gap: 27

Claiborne: 15

I dont know to be honest! Claiborne's defense is being left out of all of this! Claiborne has played a few more tough teams than what CG has to play. Claiborne scrimmaged Oneida and beat them 28-7 i believe in he spring and Have a dominate o line with all of them returning and the dangerous middle linebacker Chris Bell who is strong, fast, and great team leader and the big tailback Anthony Lewis along with that o line they have i believe Claiborne will pull away ! they played CG tough last year against their "so called" senior oriented team and almost blew them out and Cg has lost all those boys this year! but this will be a close hard fought smash mouth football game . Good luck to both teams!!

Are you guys serious? Claiborne shoulc have beat you guys last year with entire team returning and C.G. lost alot of good players. Do not compare scores of C.D. because Fusion did not even play until last series and defense only gave up one T.D. on a long pass from a busted coverage. I thing you guy's are predicting with your hearts not your minds. Claiborne will dominate this series for the next four or five years like or not tha my friends will be a fact!!!!!!

WOW, were going all out on our first ever post arent we? I can agree with you that CG lost alot of players and Claiborne shouldve won that game last year, but they didnt. They played great up until CG decided to hit them in the mouth and they layed down. When you get up on a team like they did on CG last year you gotta keep pouring it on and not put it in neutral and CHOKE like that. And no one should be comparing the Claiborne-Chuckey Doak score to the CG- Chuckey Doak score because different teams match up better than others. Now, yes our fans are predicting with their hearts because thats what this young CG team plays with is heart. They might not have all their ducks in a row right now but believe me they will come friday night if the Shipley coaches have anything to do with it because they used to coach Claiborne and nothing would make them happier than to leave with ANOTHER win over the boys across the river under their belt. The series has been dominated by CG so where you are getting that Claiborne is going to win the next four or five years i dont know but you need to check the past because its always an indicator of the future. CG 4-1 in this series since it became Panthers vs. Bulldogs!

    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
    • That's complete BS.  Nobody at ACHS has access to CHS student records unless a transfer is made from CHS to ACHS.
    • Trez's last scandal has died down, so I guess this is there opportunity to be the best 4A team playing in 2A a la Sissy MTN.  At least they won't be in a Z-district with 1a teams in the regular season.
