Division II Playoffs

I do not see how that is possible with the E/M seedings because if EHS beats BGA and McCallie beats MBA, that would mean BGA McCallie and MBA all have two region losses. But wouldnt that make McCallie the number three for winning head to head against MBA, MBA the number four and BGA number five because of a better strength of schedule?

I don't think so. McCallie would have to have beaten both MBA and BGA (or MBA would have had to have beaten BGA for that to happen).

Since BGA did not play either, you cannot use head-to-head (it would be unfair to BGA) and it goes back to the tiebreakers (wins, quality wins, etc).

McCallie would have 7 wins while MBA and BGA would have 8. MBA would probably beat out BGA because of a tougher schedule.

The only other way you could possibly interpret it would be to say that MBA has to be seeded lower than McCallie because they lost to McCallie. In that situation, BGA would be the #3 (more wins), McCallie #4 and MBA #5.

My reading of the tie-breakers is that head-to-head applies only if it can be applied to all the teams that remain in the running. Since BGA cannot be in the head-to-head, I think the scenario in the previous post is correct.

From the TSSAA website:

If Ensworth wins and Brentwood Academy loses, Ensworth is first, MBA is second, BGA is third, Brentwood Academy is fourth, and McCallie is fifth.

If Ensworth wins, MBA wins, and Brentwood Academy wins, Ensworth is first, MBA is second, Brentwood Academy is third, BGA is fourth, and McCallie is fifth.

If Ensworth wins, MBA loses, and Brentwood Academy wins, Ensworth is first, Brentwood Academy is second, MBA is third, BGA is fourth, and McCallie is fifth.

If Ensworth loses, MBA loses, and Brentwood Academy loses, BGA is first, Ensworth is second, MBA is third, Brentwood Academy is fourth, and McCallie is fifth.

If Ensworth loses and MBA wins, MBA is first, Brentwood Academy is fourth, and McCallie is fifth.

If Baylor wins, BGA is second, and Ensworth is third.

If Baylor loses, the tiebreaker goes to the victories of their opponents and cannot be determined until the end of regular season, but the two schools will be second and third in some order.

Not sure how that can be. BA, EHS and BGA would each have one loss in the region and BA beat BGA which in turn beat EHS.

TSSAA does not appear to be following their own rules UNLESS the head-to-head cannot be applied in this case because BA and EHS did not play. Then BGA and EHS have more wins (9) than BA and the head-to-head comes into play only after BA is eliminated. Doesn't seem very fair to BA to get knocked out for playing Prattville instead of Stone Memorial.

It's Called the "RC Ruling" from TSSAA office. These rules only apply to schools that have ruffled the feathers of the TSSAA.

According to previous information on this thread:

In each of the potential match-ups above, the winner of the 1st listed game (with #1 E/M seed) would play the winner of the last listed game (with the #2 W seed).

The winner of the 2nd listed game (with #1 W seed) would play the winner of the 3rd listed game (with the #2 E/M seed).

EHS has McCallie in round 1, regardless of the outcomes Friday night. Unless BA loses to Ryan, BGA has to go to MUS.

This just goes to show how tough the DII-AA playoffs are, despite the fact the detractors love to talk about the short path to the title. In DI, a one seed can get a team with a losing record in the first round. In this case, EHS gets a team that, with one game remaining, has a one-point loss to an undefeated DII-AA team, a one-point loss to a serious 5A contender, and a respectable 2 TD loss to BA.

It also looks likely that EHS would have either BA or MBA in the 2nd round.

Thats why EHS' fans will be rooting for Father Ryan tonight... If Ryan wins, then MUS, MBA, and BA will all be on the other side of the bracket, which would give EHS a pretty easy road to the Championship game. Not to mention, whichever team makes it from the other side of the bracket with have already played at least 1 really tough game already in the playoffs.
