I was going to try and keep out of this but I can only bite my tongue so long. There is probably not any D1 talent on this team this year. But, in their hearts and minds and at this very small minute moment in their lives, they are a D1 TEAM. NO one and I mean NO one thought they would be where they are right now. But, you know what, they are. Part of it is a credit to the coaching staff. Not all of it comes from Counce. He is only one man. Without the rest of the staff, he would have nothing. LEGEND...no he is not nor does he want to be. Hero....to these kids, YES he is. You know when Stevie says he takes lemons and makes lemonade????? Did it occur to anyone that Coach Counce does that just as well off the field as he does on. There are no slackers on his team. He stays after their grades. He doesn't put up with garbage in the classroom and if one of these kids has a problem at home, he is the first one to put his arm around a kids neck and tell him, "IF you need me." Most outsiders don't see this side of him. They judge him by the headlines, coacht, etc. I personally think he is a heck of a human being. Adsmom, I can understand why you think he has an ego bigger than Texas. That is the way he comes across but that is not the way he is. He is very matter of fact but then again so am I. I respect that. You know where you stand with him. Both of my boys would run through a brick wall for him. They respect him and he respects them. Sure he gets in there face and he hands out a pretty mean football practice. But, thats what life is all about. It ain't always a bed of roses. He has most definitely taught this TEAM(who was never gonna be anything) that if you want something, you have to work for it and you have to get out there and take it. It won't be handed to you. You have to take it, just like in life. What a lesson he and his staff are teaching them on and off the field. And, as far as this team is concerned, I have never been more proud of a group of young men. They stand together as one. They support each other. If there is a mistake made, they made it together. There is no blame. And, they have the heart of giants. I had never witnessed true heart until this year. They amaze me. Many of us thought they would not do well this year. I think alot of us forgot to ask these boys what they thought about that. Sure seems they are giving us their answer now. And to finish this off, in the grand scheme of things, these boys(coaching staff included) are just out there going what they love ten yards at a time. Strap em on boys....Friday night is just around the corner.

ONE TEAM!!!

ONE DREAM!!!

LIVE IT!!!

GO TROJANS!!!

You may be right ftblmom.....maybe I would really like him, who knows. I have sent more than one PM to a few on the boards commending him. #1 reason has been for discipline.....I will say I admire it. I am a big enough person to say that my perception could be wrong....I have admitted MANY times on here I am wrong. Wish WE had more discipline....and I have said that MANY times. All I have heard is what he (Counce) does...on and on. Just felt the kids needed some credit. We went through a whole season last year of biased articles in the paper...until that one win against ya'll and then it changed and we finally got some credit.....I see it going back to that. Sportwriter...who I know...was on here posting in a manner that all but tells every kid from DC who he is for and that is D-burg. No offense trojanz1.....does anyone think that stuff doesn't bother kids?????? The talk of Counce running the score up on DC...and it came from a pretty darn good source...just turned my stomach. To think a school is hated so much the coaches would be willing to humiliate a group of kids bothers me. Could be wrong....but this came from more than one person close to the program. I know ALOT of the kids that will be entering DHS next year and they are terrific kids....and yes there ARE athletes in the bunch. If he can change attitudes for the better in kids...my hat is off to him. I listen to your games on the radio and yes there are some of us that are cheering them on....cause in the end...they are kids.

My point exactly....I think alot of us forgot to ask these kids what they thought. The coaching staff gives direction...the kids are the ones that execute. And, I know that alot of DC faithful are pulling for DHS Friday night. And, I would hope that if the tables were turned, DHS faithful would be pulling for DC. After all, it is about our boys county wide.

It's fair to say I am responsible for the whole 'Legend' thing with the headline "The Legend Returns".

To say it as simply as possible, when James Counce decided to return to Trojan football the headline was one meaning in DYERSBURG Counce is a legend, which he is.

There has been much flak received for over using the word legend. It wasn't used to offend anyone or make the man more than he is, but it was appropriate.

Having said that, I challenge anyone to dispute that this football team would be in the position they are in if not only Counce, but his son and the rest of the coaching staff that works their rear ends of seven days a week weren't here.

The players, for the most part, are striving because the staff has put a plan in place and the players have bought into it.

I'm there two or three days a week and most have no freakin' idea how hard these kids work to get better on a daily basis. After attending practices at both DHS and DCHS, to be blunt there is simply no comparison. None, nata.

Yes, the coaches have done a great job with a team supposed to be mediocre. True enough, there are no Gold Balls for football in the trophy case, but as of today Dyersburg is one of 8 teams still alive, so they do have a chance right?

Why do some have such a dislike for Dyersburg? Seriously, I don't understand it.

Reading all the threads on CoachT are for the most part very amusing and at times very well written, but some of this stuff is just down right brusing, especially to the kids that get on here and read it. Believe me, they read it.

Another thing I don't understand is this playing in college deal. While there may not be but one or two at the big boy level, there are plenty that are still playing the game in college.

As far as Counce goes, he could give a rats... what people think of him. There are a few more coaches out there coaching today that if they felt the same way their football teams would be better because of it, and all of you out there know it.

In any case, the Trojans will keep playing until someone unfortunately tells them the season is over. It could happen this week, next week, or it may happen the week after. However, the season is still alive when Mitchell leaves the stadium Friday night, win or lose, they will remember the Trojans!

very well said thank you

Okay....so comparing kids practices ....specifically DC's /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> might not be hurtful for some kids to read?????....some of the kids who DID work hard might not appreciate reading that. Ever think comments like that and things written about fans at games might just POSSIBLY have something to do with people not liking D-burg???? EVER think last years fiasco just MAY have something to do with it. I Honestly didn't think they would make it as far as they have....and have said so. Surprised me BUT I was pleasantly surprised....heck I listen to the games and I say good luck to those kids AND MEAN IT. Most people who know me know I wouldn't say it if I didn't.

Sorry. In no way was I referring to the players but how the practices were run.

its not kids that have the problem with each other, its the adults,I have been on both sides of this and I have seen it

dont be so sure about kids not wanting to play for him,if you put the work in good things will appen for you

I agree with you dalejr2, from what I know most of the kids who don't want to play for him don't like the hard work, discipline, it takes to play for him, he demands respect and gets it, teaches them alot more than just football, I have 2 sons who know what it takes to play for Counce and they are better for it. On and Off the field there is respect, discipline, love and family values. It all goes together to make them a great TEAM...

No kidding....I have no problem with any fan...least the ones I have met....well there was ONE but he was waaay freaky and oddly threatening on here last year. Know doubt got some strange looks when I went over to talk to some D-burg fans I had met on here at a game /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I have NEVER lost a bit of sleep over this or any game...and doubt I ever will. Wish the kids the best of luck Friday....get out there and get it done!!

My thing is...DYERSBURG LOST EVERYBODY from last year....The most talented team in Dyersburg history probably....One starter (Click) who played last year or maybe Whitfield ( two) who played ANY OFFENSE...and going to this TWO platoon system..was gonna take some getting used to....and all I could hear was HOW DOWN Dyersburg was gonna be this year...This was gonna be the year that COUNCE would have to EARN HIS MONEY because EVERYBODY was gone...No Rashad, No Tyler, No Beau, etc, etc.. THOSE KIDS WERE THREE YEAR STARTERS...He will have to start over...We "WILL SEE WHAT KIND OF COACH COUNCE IS"...Heard it from more than one at the beginning of the season...and I said..."LIKE HIM..DON"T LIKE HIM"...The man gets the most out of his talent....He gets those kids to BELIEVE in him and they will RUN THROUGH A BRICK WALL FOR HIM.....and still everybody said...DYERSBURG LOST TOO MUCH ....They won't make the playoffs...Yet here we are two field goals away from being undefeated....and one of only 8 teams left in AAA playing for it all....Somebody must be doing something right...

WELL STATED , NO WILL EVER BELIEVE THE DISPLICINE AND DEDICATION HE INSTILLS IN ALL THE TROJAN PLAYERS 'TO PLAY AS ONE MAKING YOU A TEAM'..ON THE OTHER HAND HE IS A FATHER FIGURE TO MANY OF THE TROJANS THAT TURN THEIR LIVES INTO MORE MEANINGFUL LIFE ATTUTIDES AND CHARACTER THAT LAST A LIFETIME..NO BETTER QUALITY CAN BE TAUGHT THAN A LOVING CARING ARM AND HAND REACHING OUT TO YOU IN TIMES OF NEED !!

WHOOP IT UP TROJANS ITS TIME TO ROLL ON ! WE BELIEVE IN ALL OF YOU !!

GO TROJANS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I meant in NO WAY to slam the kids...They are hard workers...DISCIPLINED...WELL COACHED AND FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND....I AM PROUD OF THESE KIDS....When I say "He takes Lemons and makes Lemonade"...I mean he takes a kid who might be SHORT on athletic ability....and through HARD WORK...LISTENING...EXECUTION...and WILLING TO PUT OUT AND SACRIFICE....makes them a GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER...HENCE a GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM....He GETS EVERYTHING HE CAN OUT OF HIS KIDS is ALL THAT I AM SAYING....He gets EVERY BIT OF ABILITY AND EFFORT THAT HE CAN GET OUT OF THEM....WE DON"T HAVE A TEAM FULL OF PRIMA DONNAS AT DHS...Those PRIMA DONNA TYPES couldn't play for Counce...They couldn't handle the DISCIPLINE...."HE GETS THE MOST OUT OF HIS PLAYERS"...How many other coaches can say that?..

Not many Stevie...not many. I am one of the most proud parents that sits in those stands. I could not say enough good things about this bunch of boys. And, I let them know every chance I get. My children are much better young men because of what they have experienced this year. My hat is off to each and every coach and each and every young man. They set a goal, they worked for it and they are achieving it.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
