Harriman/Roane Co. Jamboree

OS already plays Rockwood and Harriman as out of district opponents to maintain their county rivalry. OS plays Kingston in their district, so to who's benifet would it be to play in a county christmas tourney full of teams that OS already play's? The rest of the county or OS's? The answer is simple- FOr the best interest of OS girls basketball they need to seek the best teams available in a toureny. No offense if I were a coach, girl, or a school administrator and I had teams the caliber of OS girls, I would pull OS from the toruney each and every year and play them in other prestigous tournies or to play against temas from across the country/state that match OS's talent and will make OS elevate their game that will be benifical later come tourney time. It's a no brainer. This football jamboree of ONE quarter vs. talk of OS Lady Cats mission of competing against the best talent in the state/country is nowhere even close to the same thing to a Football Jamboree of Kingston not particapating. ALso, OS has shown to probably be the best football team this year and lastg year and it's particiapating. Also, there is no history behind this jamboree or tradition, so why expect teams to particapate or even be upset?

Kingston not in the Jamboree and OS Girls not in Christmas Tourney is Apples and Oranges.. the two dont even belong together.

Not going to agree or disagree with you on this one. I know there is no history, but my understanding was it was a fundraiser for the programs themselves. And I think it would be a more effective fundraiser if everyone was involved.

When all the smoke has cleared, every player involved puts on their uniform the same...works as hard...and deserves the fundraiser to work and work well.

I hate to break it to you but the O.S. girls aren't the only ones who do not want to be in the Christmas tourney! I have yet to talk to a coach who actually wants to be in it. The other teams all play each other as well. I was under the impression that all teams in the county had been told they had to be in the Christmas tourn, not that it was optional. I simply stated this fact because we were talking about county teams not participating in a fundraiser, so it is not apples and oranges.

Then that is ridiculous to be self imposed by the county or whatever powers that be that try to enforce their wishes on programs and call it a fund raiser. Programs should be SELF sufficent in their fund raising efforts. If schools or programs are strapped for cash then a christmas tourney is the way to go, but not at the expense of programs that have other desires and excersize their options accordingly. If schools want to raise money, then hold your own tourney or get together with schools, but dont expect schools to play each other 4-5 times in a year- it becosmes overkill and predictible.

But back to this jamboree and comparing Kingston's no show and OS's no show are TWO completely different situaitons. Kingston in football this year is not what OS in womens basketball right now. Second, Kingston did not have any other obligation during the night of the jamboree as OS did in Orlando in the Disney tourney. A jamboree isn a real game preperation would have helped Kingston get ready to real game rituals and would have been tremendous for Roane COunty to see the Orange show up. I agree, I think Kingston should have been there But, OS girls want to play the states and some of the best teams from the southeast in tournies and Christmas tournies are typically where you can play thse teams. OS wihtout question with the transfers they have recieved will be one of the states best teams easily, so naturally OS wants tthem to gel and paly against the best and these tournies will provide them with that competition. It's apples and oranges when comapring the situation.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
