Shin Gaurds

Last year the refs kept mentioning next year that all players had to have longer shin gaurds.

Does anyone know the exact details on the new shingaurd rule?

Also, I think it may be the same rule that travel soccer has had for a few years. Travel doesn't enforce the rule.

Will the TSSAA refs enforce the new shin gaurd rule?

I think it will be like the "body piercing" rule... they might not "look for it", but if you get caught with the wrong shin guards, the COACH will get the yellow card (and that makes us rather grumpy).

I believe (and correct me if I am wrong Akula) that the shinguards must be "certified" height appropriate.

my understanding is that they are size appropriate and no more than a coupel inches above the ankle. They want to get rid of the players wearing the shin guards the size of a dollar bill and taping them right below the knee. I never understood that fad anyways. For the girls season, we were just asked if our players were "properly equipped" thus the yellow for the coach if they are discovered to not be properly equipped.

I think officially the shin guards are supposed to be stamped with the NFHS logo, but that seems shady to me. I didn't let the players wear the small guards anyways so I'm hoping this isn't a head ache. I'm sure we'll know for sure during the preseason scrimmages.

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
