Sequatchie beat Notre Dame 42-25. The score is a little misleading as it was 28-0 at the half and 39-10 after three. Sequatchie took off the press after the second quarter and started subbing deep at the start of the third quarter but it wasn't enough for the refs, especially one who's been reffing for years, as they ignored all sorts of things on one end yet called the tiniest things on the other. In the first half there was nothing at all to complain about, in the second half it seemed there was a real effort to give the team getting beaten badly a chance to get a few points. That's not their job and it doesn't help ND get better. The worst actually was called a foul but not by the one who saw it most clearly. When a player got a steal and was taken to the floor on a lay-up, the official under the basket ignored it and it took the ref 30 feet away a couple of seconds to realize his partner's whistle had not blown. Numerous walks, stepping out of bounds, etc were called in the first half but were rarely called in the second. That's a lot of complaining especially after a win but I really believe anyone who could watch a copy of the game would agree, the girls getting knocked all over (in the second half) would definitely.

Sequatchie's Barker had 23 points, shot pretty well at 9-16 and 4-4, had 11 rebounds and five steals in three quarters. She also went over 1500 points for her high school career. Everyone played with all but 1 or 2 getting a lot of minutes. A freshman and a sophomore each had 4 assists, not bad numbers with only 42 points scored, a couple of freshmen rebounded well. Sequatchie was 7-9 on FT, had only 2 attempts in the second half. ND had five field goals in the game, they hit 14 FT including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Sequatchie will play Bledsoe at Howard Saturday at 3 Central. Hopefully it's not snowed out.

Just 5. I expect Signal Mountain to make it 6 in two years, they're supposed to have AA-level enrollment this fall but for whatever reason were allowed to fall into Class A. There was some griping about the league just having five and the Chattanooga group having more, plus being a stronger football district, but from what I understand Howard, Brainerd and Tyner wanted to stay together and Red Bank, Hixson, preferred to remain together. Chattanooga Christian will have a similar district opponent with Notre Dame with Sequatchie, Grundy and Bledsoe making up the rest of the district.

Another big change, this district will be 7AA, meaning region games will be against Upperman, Livingston, etc instead of McMinn Central, Polk, etc. Except for MC that will make it a lot tougher in the region if things continue as they have in past years.

Grundy won by 2 over Chattanooga Christian, mentioned in the other ongoing topic.

Sequatchie won by 6 over Bledsoe, 42-36 in overtime. Bledsoe had 2 field goals in the second half and in the four minute overtime period. Sequatchie didn't light it up offensively either but they did score 21 before and after halftime.

Bledsoe led 12-10 after a quarter, 25-21 at the break. Sequatchie's biggest lead was three, 5-2 very early, Bledsoe led by as much as 7, 25-18 late in the second quarter. Seq's McDonough brought it to a four point lead with a three pointer before the buzzer.

Bledsoe led most of the third, hit a foul shot late to lead 30-28 entering the fourth. A three made it 33-28, two shots by K Barker got it down to one. Another shot by Barker tied it at 34-34 with about two minutes left, Bledsoe made 2-2 FT with 1:20 left. Under a minute, Bledsoe regained possession but M Barker got a steal, to McDonough for a short jumper to tie the game again at 36-36. Bledsoe was called for 10 seconds, Sequatchie got a couple of good looks late but couldn't put either in, overtime.

In overtime, Barker got the ball to freshman McAfee immediately under the basket, she was fouled and hit 1-2 to put Seq ahead for good. Sequatchie did not shoot well from the line in OT, or the game, but after Barker made one, McDonough hit 2-2, 40-36 with 1:20 left. Bledsoe failed to score and fouled again, Sequatchie missed both FT, but Cooley gained the offensive rebound and Sequatchie made two more FT over the last 40 seconds, 6-0 in overtime.

K Barker had 22 points. McDonough scored 9 and most all of her points came at really needed times in the game, that was good to see from a sophomore who got little playing time as a freshman. Cooley had 9 rebounds, McAfee had 8. Bledsoe got 17 from Yeargen, she's a good senior who should be playing in college next year somewhere. One of Bledsoe's best players was kept from scoring a point after making four or five threes in their last game, that was a big part of the win.

Sequatchie and Grundy play Monday night, each team will host a first round region game. CCS and Bledsoe play for third and each has to travel in the first round of the region.

The box score in the TFP for the Sequatchie-Bledsoe game has some incorrect figures but it's not really important. The hospitality and politeness from staff at Howard were great, but there were a couple of times in more than one game points were put on the wrong side on the scoreboard, two points were initially put up instead of three, etc. The errors were quickly fixed in the Sequatchie game but it did cause everyone to look and make sure the score was right on each basket. Hopefully there were no lost points in the other games.
