The midfielders for portland are #3, #4, #5, and #6 and sometimes #17

I was told that Portland scored the winning goal off of a 40 yard free kick that Groft hit that went upper 90 and the keeper could only hit it up into the cross bar. Portland scored off the rebound. I could be wrong. Confirmation?

Yes that is how it happened, Macon County's other goalie is 6'5. Have to question why he wasnt in their. I have heard he is pretty good for somebody as big as he is.

I was able to make the Portland v. Merryl Hyde game tonight and it was a good one.

Portland won tonight 1-0 but the score doesn't tell the story. The shot count was 18-3 in favor of portland. Even with gusting winds blowing right at one of the goals, portland got 9 shots on goal each half. This demonstrates their ability to adjust and still be successful. They had problems finishing but it will come.

Good job Portland. Good luck to Merryl Hyde as the season progresses

Many district games have been played so any opinions on how it will end up?

Station Camp i do believe is the only team that hasnt played any district games at this point, the standings are:

Portland 3-0 3-1

Merrol Hyde 2-1 2-1

White House 1-0-1 3-2-2

Mt. Juliet Christian 1-1-1 3-1-2

Friendship Christian 0-1 1-3-1

Greenbrier 0-2 0-3-1

Macon Co. 0-2 1-2

Big district game tonight was played at MJCA. They played portland. Portland was up 2-1 with about 2 minutes left in the game and MJCA put one in to tie it

A few comments. The were terrible for both teams. And usually its not so bad as long as the calls are consistent but they weren't. It was clearly visible from the stands and the players and coaches were not happy either

MJCA played very hard and earned the tie. They had some chances to actually win the game but came up short. They were celebrating the well-earned tie. As they should have. good game by MJCA

Portland played hard as well. They were inconsistent but when they were on, MJCA didn't have an answer. They just couldn't play the full 80. Their defense didn't play very well. Maybe the worst performance of the season for them. They had some great moments too, however.

In the end, the score reflected the game. Both teams went at it and their was no clear cut winner. MJCA missed some big oppurtunities and Portland couldn't play a full game. Great game to watch

MJCA played excellent, and hard, in the last 5-10 minutes of the game. If Portland finished like they should in the first, and second half, the game would've easily been theirs, and theirs to lose. Their defense played well, and yes they did have a few bad moments, but mostly they played very well and organized. #2 and 15 are by far the base of their defense.

I understand what your saying, but some of the calls the Refs didnt make were or could have been game changing calls.

Portland should have put the game away earlier but MJCA just didn't give up and caught Portland on their heels at the end of the game win Portland was smelling victory. We can play the full 80 mins, we just can't finish.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
