Wayne Co. at Forrest

Hey Cat,

I think AB23 was saying that when the guy was being escorted out, though he had been yelling at the refs, he turned toward the Forrest bench and made some gesture to the girls. It looked even as if he was "mock clapping" to the girls, appearing as if he was taunting them on the way out. Can't know what he was saying since I wasn't on that side of the court, but it did look like a taunt. As for the "overzealous cop," do you mean the uniformed officer or the plain clothes cop?

Mostly the plain clothes. I know they have a job to do and alot get a bad rap. If they had just taken the ones needing to thrown out and went back to their positions alot could been avoided. Instead they they had to be the aggressive.

First things first....I am the "Plain Clothes" Officer you have been talking about and what you have even called the "overzealous cop"! I'm not going to sit back and listen to a bunch of people talk about and down grade my credability when you don't even know me or my character! First of all how are you going to call me the aggressor with the older gentleman when i wasn't even over there when the incident occured?? When he did what he did i was on the other side of the gym and didin't even notice there was an officer over there until someone notified me which is when i went over to assist and of course by then they had already decided to arrest the gentleman. Without knowing me....The statement of being overzealous is actually hilarious cuz im actually the complete opposite and could care less about what fans are screaming at ref's or oppossing teams because we too have been there so i know how frustruating that is. But when i see a fellow police officer go into a set of bleachers with 100 screaming and upset people you can bet im going up there with him! I know alot of you are saying it was just a basketball game and emotions were high....This day and time emotions running high can lead to a whole lot and that night i wasn't going to sit around and let one of my fellow co-workers or an oppossing fan get hurt over something as childish as what happened! Back to being "overzealous"...When three officers go into an area of 100 upset people do you not think some sort of zealous is going to show?? If not maybe next time a situation like that occurs you should listen to the lack of respect and rude things being said...But yet we were the dis-respectful ones! The TRUE aggressor in this incident was the one's throwing the bottles at the ref's which was a big disappointment and embarrassment for such a well thought of and talented team as the Wayne County girls! They played great all year long and im sure are going to continue to succeed with one of the state's better coach's so be proud of your team because they played a great game...They just got beat by a great team! I'm at the games to watch and support this community not to do the same stuff i do on regular basis..OVERZEALOUS....Not hardly! GO LADY ROCKETS!!

Well put. Now I know who you are. Good job!

I have tried to not not comment but feel I must.First, Forrest deserved to win as they shot lights out and played excellent. Second, the ones throwed out for throwing the bottles deserved it. Uncalled for.Third, the older man being arrested was uncalled for by an overzealous cop that created that created the whole situation.Fourth, if anyone should be banned it should be the 3 officials.Horrible but not the reason for the outcome of the game. This is coming from someone who was There. By the way the older man as you called him was not yelling at the Forrest girls, but the officials. Second hand information usually gets twisted.

It is not second hand information if you were there and witnessed it with your own two eyes. The whole reason he was arrested was because he refused to leave when the officer told him to. It didn't look like to me that the cops were doing anything other than their job. Everyone who was on that side of them gym could hear him yelling at the officer about how he would leave when he wanted to, and that he was going to sue them if they put their hands on them. So, maybe it is you who does not have their information correct. And yes, he did say a few choice words to the Forrest girls bench as he was walking out.

- an embarrassment for Waynesboro for sure - thank God that no one was hurt - physically, anyway!

a couple or three things.

1) boy, did forest come out on fire. they are playing some great basketball right now, and their game with clarkrange ought to be something to see.

2) the gentleman talking to the forest girls on the way out. i was behind the forest bench, and what i thought he was saying was along the lines of; "it isnt you (that i am mad at) you are a great team (and clapping for them)." maybe i am just a pollyanna, but it was my impression that he didnt want the forrest team to think he was critical of them.

3) the officials were fine, as far as calling the game accurately goes. but the woman official had a bad habit of waiting to see how a play came out before blowing the whistle. i even commented to my wife earlier in the game that she was the kind of official that could lead to problems. for example not whistling a reach in foul until she saw if the offended team maintained possession or not, resulting in a late whistle.

on the play in question, the wayne co girl undoubtedly pushed to get position on the rebound. in that situation (score & time), any good player would have done the same (you cant just give up and lose). instead of just calling the foul, the lady official waited to see if forrest would get the rebound anyway (which seemed probable). they did not. the wayne co girl got both hands on the ball, and pulled it down while turning away, and pulled the forrest girl over her back (forrest still had one hand on the ball and had her arm hooked). the weight of the forrest player caused the wayne co girl to stumble and fall with forrest on top of her. now what does the official do? call the pushing foul late, on the wayne co girl who was on the floor with possession of the ball and an opponent on top of her? call over the back on the forrest girl, who actually got fouled to begin the sequence? she settled for calling a walk. it caused an uproar as is obvious from the other posts.

there is no excuse for the fan's behavior, but officials need to just make a call. any official who blows their whistle based on the outcome of a play is going to cause these sort of situations. hopefully the experience will make this official better in the future.

    • Looks like South Pittsburg added some more talent!
    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
