PHargis
I didn't see Page in there. Am I just missing it? Go down to the third thread on this forum and you will see the tournaments listed and the dates. I am going to post the 2009-2013 new districts on this site so those schools would like to see them can do so. DistrictIA this year is seperated from IAA and then there's IAAA. Even Division II has changed a little bit in 2009-2013.. This has been publicized but Volleyball is the first sport of the 2009 season and this is a reminder. Thanks for doing this. PHargis
Interesting stuff. You have now the Williamson County district and a metro Nashville district in AAA. Thanks for the post, PH. These Divisions were copied off of the TSSAA Web Site. There could be errors but if corrections are made by the TSSAA and I pick it up i will make the corrections. The reason this was posted is that Volleyball is one of the first School Sports of the year and tought that a copy of the Classification would at least give notice that Districts have been changed or reclassified. The absolute verified copy is located on the TSSAA Web SITE HOME PAGE.
PHargis
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuDean's List: Switches to DII changes Nashville prep landscape By: Harold Huggins, [email protected] Posted: Monday, March 30, 2009 12:00 am Email Print Franklin Road Academy hosted its annual Highland Games which got started late on Saturday. As always, the highlight was the Kilt Mile. Mike Strasinger for The City Paper Starting this fall, there will be a notable change for a portion of Nashville??™s high school sports landscape ??” created by several schools??™ move to Division II. Following the Spring Fling state championships in May, three of the area??™s high-profile schools will be heading to the D-II ranks. A private school threesome of Ezell-Harding, Franklin Road Academy and Donelson Christian Academy recently joined Davidson Academy and University School of Nashville (which were already in DII-A) to comprise a statewide 14-team league. The presence of Knoxville powerhouse Webb, which dropped one notch from DII-AA, makes for an even stronger division. And St. Cecilia, a small all-girls school, also chose to drop to DII-A. Tourney formats and schedules are being compiled. ???This is a lot like the old District 7 ??” a league reunited, ??? said DII-A region coordinator Kevin LeGate. LeGate also is Davidson Academy??™s 10-year athletic director, whose school went to DII-A four years ago. ???We??™ll still play the schools we have in the past,??? he said. ???But with schools like FRA, DCA and Ezell coming in, that will make for more competition and make it even stronger and better.??? DA has won three DII-A state football titles in the past four years. ???In football, there??™s five teams on one side, four on the other (in East/Middle and West/Middle),??? LeGate said. For basketball, the committee divided the schools into one large and several small groups. All of the Nashville schools ??” DCA, FRA, Davidson, Ezell, USN and St. Cecilia ??” joined Knox Webb in the larger school category. ???It works well for us,??? said Ezell athletic director and softball coach Don Freudenthal, whose teams have won 12 state softball titles. ???I can??™t speak for the other Nashville schools who made the switch, but I think we??™re very similar in the area of joining a situation which best fits the needs of our clientele and what the school??™s mission is.??? For Freudenthal, this was the best route for Ezell. ???I did a lot of background checking,??? he said. ???I talked extensively with Kevin (LeGate), whose school was already in DII-A. I talked about all the pros and cons of playing in that division, and it seemed the best for us.??? One of the ??
PHargis
The article by Nashville City Paper evidently caught most off guard as the DII Middle/East restructuring was a substantial change and really not surprising. Adding three schools to their Middle Tennesse ranks gave DII small the chance to reduce their operational cost and expand their base. But unless the article is short on details, there still are some changes to be made and the article sure scooped the Tennessean who normally finds out those matters more quickly. While the schools cost would be helped some, its effects on attendance and costs to the parents and fans might not be effected as much but its a step in the right direction. Now we'll have to see the effect on the TSSAA and the increase in the number of Tournaments they are having to produce. Whether the effect of holding their Tournament in Knoxville is a part of an overall DII effort and the State will be held there for total DivII its not known but for the next two years, the Fan base in DivII Memphis will be traveling the same or longer unless they decide they are having their own State Tournament there. It's evident something may change again since no detail was made. While the 2009-10 Calender was posted on the TSSAA web site, no details were made on tournaments. As many know, VBall State Tournaments were held with DI last year buteven the City Paper scooped the TSSAA and reported that the State Tournament for VB would be held at Knoxville Webb this year and DCA next year which likely had the TSSAA's approval. There is no reason why anyone would have an objection except the schools themselves. So changes are here and they will come fast and we will await what happens next. We'll know after the Spring Fling.
silverpie
It's not volleyball-related, but I noticed another implication of what's in that article--D2 appears to be pulling out of Spring Fling (if that concept even continues)...
PHargis
It's not volleyball-related, but I noticed another implication of what's in that article--D2 appears to be pulling out of Spring Fling (if that concept even continues)... I noticed that.I think its all right. FRA has a good facility for DII plus other schools. DI has most of Middle Tennessee to do what they need, baseball, track, softball. They had most things tied up. Member Schools will decide. Not a real problem. It has been held in the Boro long enough, if held there, the facilities are still all right. Same number of schools, just have different names. Same all the way thru. Very likely a lot more changes before everything is over in every sport. It doesnt make any difference. It's over with and DII can do what it wants. It was a good business move and one for survival. Small schools in MTDII helped themselves. Good luck. PHargis
Misunderstanding causes one school to dropout of DII. Prep Notebook: Lancaster Christian changes mind about joining TSSAA BY TOM KREAGER ??? [email protected] ??? April 5, 2009 Post a CommentRecommend Print this page E-mail this article Share Del.icio.us Facebook Digg Reddit Newsvine Buzz up!Twitter Lancaster Christian has decided to pass on joining the TSSAA at this time. The school had been accepted as a TSSAA member school before reneging, deciding it was not ready to compete in the high school association and follow their bylaws. "I think we kind of rushed into it," said Sherry Lancaster, co-principal of the school. Lancaster said she wasn't aware of some of the TSSAA rules, referencing a transfer rule requiring athletes to sit out a year of varsity competition if they move in from another school without a change of residence. "We don't think its right for that person to sit out just because they decided to come here after playing somewhere else the year before," Lancaster said. Lancaster Christian had been placed in a Division II-A region prior to bowing out of the TSSAA. TSSAA Executive Director Ronnie Carter said all of the teams in Lancaster's region that had scheduled the school will pick up a forfeited region win since they dropped out. He said the schools can still play Lancaster this season. "That's where it might get a little wacky," Carter said. "They may play them and win. They'd be 0-1 overall but 1-0 in the region."
