Father Ryan wins Predators Cup

Did they play the consolation game? I haven't been able to find any info about it. I watched the semifinals Friday and was wondering if Knoxville would have enough skaters left to play on Saturday. I personally think the Knoxville kid who stomped on the legs of the Father Ryan player should be banned from all forms of hockey for at least a year, if not longer.

Thanks for the update silverpie.

goblue - A scrum started in front of the Knoxville goalie during the second period. Nothing big, just some pushing, shoving, talking and hugging. Part of the pile fell down and the smallest player on the ice decided he was going to get involved by stomping his skate on the back of the legs of one of the FR players that was laying on the ice. A linesman saw him, grabbed him (after the third or fourth stomp) and attempted to escort him to the penalty box. Once order was restored, the ref sent the kid to the showers. One of the assistant coaches had to escort him from the ice to the locker room because he made an attempt to get at the FR bench. It was not a pretty scene. I haven't heard if there has been any further discipline, but IMHO the kid should be out of organized hockey for at least a year. I am sure if TSSAA was involved, he would be ineligible for all high school sports this year and next (his senior year). I am just glad the skate blade didn't cut into the FR player's leg.

Hockey would be considered a volatile sport on the adult level, so if follows that some of the same behavior will occur on the high school level. This sport needs to be sanctioned and the rules have to be pretty stiff for that sort of behavior in my opinion in order to maintain order. I am happy also that no injury to the Irish player or any player for that matter occurred. Go Irish. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hockey is as volatile as it is here because the NHL allows and encourages it. I've seen top level hockey in Sweden and Finland, and this sort of nonsense is extremely rare. Likewise, you have the same cast of characters in World Championships and Olympic Games, without any of this nonsense. Why? Because the IIHF doesn't tolerate it and issues severe sanctions.

I just discovered this board. Didn't realize you were also a hockey fan. I always try to make it to a Predators game if I'm home in the winter.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
