The Hixson wrestlers were almost perfect Tuesday night at Chattanooga Central in giving coach Garrick Hall is 100th coaching win.

The Wildcats (17-1) tied a national record for points in a match with an 84-0 triumph against Boyd-Buchanan, followed by a 77-6 win against Chattanooga Christian.

“It's great to reach 100 wins in five seasons, but we have to stay focused with some big matches coming up as we strive to return to the state duals next month,'' said Hall.

Hall pointed to winning the A-AA state duals finals last year as his biggest win, along with the region duals championship in 2008. His team's toughest loss was in the 2008 state duals finals.

All three matches were against Notre Dame.

In other matches, host Chattanooga Central was 3-0 on the night with wins against Boyd-Buchanan, 78-0, McMinn Central, 65-6, and Chattanooga Christian, 76-6. McMinn Central defeated Chattanooga Christian, 30-24.

Almost Perfect: While Hixson was posting its 84-0 win against Boyd-Buc, Central was on track as well on the adjacent mat against Chattanooga Christian ... expect that the Purple Pounders did not have a wrestler at 103 which was the last match … thus, Central won, 76-6.

Thursday Matches:

Legends Night at Central .. Central faces Ooltewah and will honor former Pounder coaches and wrestlers before the match … Former coaches John Farr, Steve Highlander and John Crawford are planning to attend … a bar-b-que dinner for all former wrestlers begins at 4:30 p.m. and the matches are set for 6 p.m.

Notre Dame is at Hixson and Red Bank hosts Signal Mountain.

Weekend Tournament Results:

Central Invitational: Arab (Ala.) was the team champion, while the host Purple Pounders took second.

Greeneville Invite: Hixson (234 points) was second to winner Science Hill (327.5 pts) in the 16-team field ... Wildcat champs were Nick Alamany (160) and Alphonso Smith (285), while Curtis Fletcher (125) was second.

Congratulations to Coach Hall on his 100th win. As hard as he's worked and as much time he has put into the program, it doesn't surprise me one bit that he reached 100 wins this quick. Also, he has had some great help over the years: Roger Vandergriff, Daniel Palmer, and Jackie Blosser to name a few and i'm sure he is very thankful for those guys' help. CONGRATS to Coach Hall and the hixson wrestling team for tying the national record.
