Congratulations to Coach Fisher on a great career. He will definitely be missed. The paper made it sound like he will be happy to spend more time with his family and watching his son coach. Must have been a tough decision to hang it up at point when Unicoi has so much talent and potential. Best of Luck to "Fish" in whatever he pursues next. Thanks for all you have done for our program.

So which way does Unicoi go for a replacement? Any names out there yet?

Fish is 60 years old and Doyle has been his sidekick for all 30 years Fish was HC, so Doyle must be pushing 60 too. He should be considered, but he may not want it. The other assistant Parkey may also be considered. She's a former player and has been with Fish for about 8 years. There will be considerable interest in this job from outside too.

The rumor mill is swirling like mad here in Erwin. Here are some of the names that have been mentioned as far as interest in the job. If anyone has any iformation on any of these people (or any other possibilities) and if they are indeed interested, or not, in the job, please share. Again, THIS IS PURELY SPECULATION, curiosity is just getting the best of most of us right now.

In-house: Smith, Parkey, Evely, Simmons, Hilliard

Out-house: Weems, Unaka's present girl's coach and former girl's coach, Barnwell from S. Hill (used to be with us), Dugger from Elizabethton

Again, I know nothing is official since I don't think the job is even posted yet, but just curious and anxious for girls to get someone in place.

If you had to deal with what coach K from Unaka had to go through you would understand why he had to step down. When your own program doesn't back you and shows no interest in you as a coach, and you have parents going to the school board over and over with one of the parents a school board member with a daughter playing there pressuring playing time it's not a good situation nor will be in the long run.

Bottom line Coach Chambers is a winner. He did it at the middle school level as well as the High School level. Great x's and o's coach, gets a lot out of his kids and he knows the game of basketball inside and out. He works hard to make his players/team better in every way possible as well as respected by other high school coaches around this area. If you are wanting somebody who will win games and make the team better players on and off the floor and show good promise with the community then he is your best fit.. IMO

OK..Chambers has baggage, hence, the need for a new coach in the first place. He caused a lot problems up in the Creek from what people said(TSSAA violations). As for all the candidates, it will be very interesting since Evely's dad is a school board member...that must be a leg up already. I just hope they post it soon so all this speculation on everyones part, me included, will stop. They need to make that choice soon though. When can you start spring practice?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
